The rerelease of Sega Saturn games would give us a much-needed break from the usual, seemingly endless ports of the first three Sonic the Hedgehog games.
News Blips:
Sega looks at rereleasing Sega Saturn games as digital downloads. Speaking to Japanese website Impress Watch (via Andriasang), Sega's Yosuke Okunari, the producer in charge of the current Dreamcast rereleases for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network, gives Saturn fans hope: "What we announced this time is a project where we will have consecutive releases of titles that were debuted on Dreamcast. Separate from this, we're of course thinking about ports of Saturn games." Well, tickle me thrilled -- maybe now one day I'll be able to play that Radiant Silvergun game I've heard so much about.
Blizzard imagines a free-to-play World of Warcraft. Speaking to PC Gamer, World of Warcraft Lead Designer Tom Chilton spoke on the rise of free-to-play MMOs (with microtransations) in the Western market and how games with that model compete with each other and not necessarily with Blizzard's product. Chilton expanded by saying that "if another game comes along and blows us away, it may not make sense for us to have a subscription fee. Or even further down the line, when we have another MMO out." A WOW sans subscription fee would almost be enough to get a cheapskate gamer like me to try it out...almost.
Rock Band 3 to feature pitch-correction technology. Destructoid reports that developer Harmonix plans to implement the iZotope technology in their game. IZotope provides real-time pitch detection and shifting for less-talented singers. I have a feeling this will work better than the previous thing people used to help with bad karaoke singing: alcohol.
Transformers: War for Cybertron preorder DLC characters going for big bucks on eBay. GamesRadar reports that people are selling (and buying) the three different digital Transformers -- available to consumers who preordered the game through Amazon (Demolisher), GameStop (Shockwave), and Best Buy (Jazz) -- on eBay for between $30 to $100. Saving a download code to sell as a collector's item is a little less cool than preserving an actual Transformers toy in its original packaging.
