Pixel Revolt -- Episode 18

Pixel Revolt is now of legal age, folks -- and we make it through the entire show without a single bad joke about it. Community member Michael Rousseau joins us this week for discussions on the necessity of knowing gaming history and whether skill or story drives us to game, and for fresh looks at the age-old debates about review scores and whether games are comparable to other forms of media. Also, your favorite video game facial hair and PAX East meet-up plans!

Man...all that beard talk, I lost time of how many times I came.

The last game I was super hyped about buying that let me down was definitely Enter the Matrix. Or as I like to call it "Enter the Craptrix". I guess I got sucked into Matrix mania, with all the movies coming out (I still love the second film) and hearing all about how they filmed the extra scenes for the game had me hyped up for it. I think I actually pre-ordered it as well. It's funny, because I would never do that for a game I hadn't played these days (unless it was a Metal Gear game). The sad part is how much I actually played that game, despite it's horrible horribleness.

Great episode guys! I listened to it on my way back home from wrok yesterday.

I specially enjoyed the discussion you had on the topic of review scores. I can't remember who said it, but that comment about the general audience's lazy attitude towards actually reading reviews was spot on, I couldn't agree more. I also liked Mike's mention of Pitchfork Media's music reviews, seriously, if you haven't read one before, you guys totally should -- if only to get an idea of their pretentiousness. They're pure, unadultered verbal-wanks accompanied by ridiculously "precise" scores.

Oh, and yeah, that "gaming beards" section at the end topped things things off masterfully. I also declare myself a proud member of Bitmob's Beard Club : )

Again, excellent show guys!

Hope you're all doing great, take care.

@Mike: It was great to meet the voice of one of Bitmob's most prolific and polarizing contributors. I like your articles, man, keep that good work up ; )
