The Community Spotlight highlights some of the best articles that didn't quite make the front page. This week we'll look at just how much is too much, an addiction to deals, and "that guy"...and you know the one we're talking about.
The extraordinary from the ordinary: Why Layton is better than Gears of War
By Chris Charlton
Sometimes too much is just too much. Other times not enough is just enough. For Chris, bombastic antics are detriments to a video game's quality, while subtlety is golden. Developer Epic colored the graphics of Gears of War in shades of gray, but not its story and action.
An uncommon gaming addiction
By Frank Anderson
Once you add up all the video game "deals" you've nabbed, you may discover you have spent a lot more than you originally intended. Like Frank, I'm married and have a child. Here's how I manage my video game spending: I don't buy a game until I beat one. With a family, you'd be surprised how long you go between purchases. This method puts a lot of games "out-of-date," giving you even better discounts.
Game reviews are not truth
By Jeffrey Sandlin
Jeffrey brings up a point we should all remember from time to time: Reviews are subjective That's why I've always tried to follow the reviews of people who represent what I look for in games (G4's Adam Sessler, IGN's Anthony Gallegos, and Area 5's Matt Chandronait), while avoiding reviews from writers with different taste from my own (IGN's Arthur Gies, Gamespy's Ryan Scott, and Giant Bomb's Jeff Gerstmann, for example). No matter what reviewer you share an opinion with, it's hard to disagree with Jeffrey.
