An Open Letter to Valve
By J. Cosmo Cohen
Many gamers are loyal to one console for personal reasons or don't have the resources (or space) to spring for all of the consoles on the market. Cosmo decided on a PS3 and isn't happy with Valve's disinterest in releasing Left 4 Dead and its sequel on the console. Read his argument for PS3 owners in this open letter.
My Local Gamestop's Horrendous Modern Warfare 2 Launch
By Brian Shirk
Modern Warfare 2 had a huge midnight launch that might have overthrown the Halo 3 storm. Brian unfortunately experienced the bad side of midnight launches. Usually only employees have tales of rough-and-tumble drunks, but now Brian joins in with his own account of unrest while waiting in line.
Left 4 Dead Intro Communicates Better than Most
By Audrey Cross
The opening cut-scene for Left 4 Dead tells you everything you need to know about the game's atmosphere. Audrey, being more observant than most, it seems, realized it reveals more than that. It tells you everything you need to know about how to play the game. She lays it out for you in screen caps and clever captions.
Nostalgia Sold Separately
By Chris Davidson
Nostalgia isn't a bad thing, but for Chris it's a leading factor in the tainting of game experiences. The Secret of Monkey Island failed to grab him, he doesn't find Comix Zone amazing, and the first Final Fantasy is unplayable. While we agree that the NES Final Fantasy is unplayable, get ready to throw down over Comix Zone, Chris.
The Ugly Duckling Scenario: Being a Gamer in a Casual World
By Jack LaPilusa
After reading The Ugly Duckling to his little brother, Jack started thinking about the story in relation to his love of video games. He felt like an outsider because of his hardcore gaming habits. He finds his home in the world of game footage and Internet forums. His story is quite touching.
Better Bosses for Super Street Fighter 4
By Luke McKinney
Luke doesn't think that Super Street Fighter 4 is a very good buy. Why would it? Capcom's supposed improvements are relatively minor to the broad changes that have been made to other games via downloadable content (see Burnout Paradise for proper DLC schooling). A new full-price disc isn't the best way to go. Luke offers his more cost-effective ideas for the future of Street Fighter 4, none of which involve making an already frustrating character "cheaper."
