Love space combat games but can't find one that caters to your dual passions for math and hardcore psychedelia? Man, you are picky, and probably wearing a tie-dye sweatshirt with orange Crocs. But also lucky!
Polynomial, a game-in-progress by indie developer Dmytry Lavrov, is such an item -- a space shooter with giant blinking fractals for scenery rather than Andromeda clouds. And even though it's not done yet, you can play (or buy) a 'preview' version right now, via Lavrov's website.
Missions, multiplayer, a story about a Geometry teacher who finds a magic protractor and warps into a world of fractals and math-hating aliens, all that stuff is still on the upcoming-features list. At this point you can fly around and shoot enemy amoeba-fractals while you wish the sound was fully implemented. Check it out, and turn on the 'Dynamic Reactor' in the visuals tab to engage full Grateful Dead mode. It's pretty rad.
