Skyrim

We're well into 2012 now, but that doesn't mean we're done talking about 2011. So for this edition of Tweetbook Q&A, we turned to our intrepid Facebook and Twitter followers to ask them one question: What was your favorite game of 2011?

We got a variety of responses, which you'll find below. If you'd like to add your vote, feel free to do so in the comments. And don't forget to follow our Facebook and Twitter pages for questions, news, contests, and more.

What was your favorite game of 2011 and why?

Via Twitter:

rrabil: Skyrim was my 2011 favorite, because my sister worked for Bethesda and tested some of the monster models. ;-)

TheMadSpin: Skyrim. It's strange. A game that presented me with so much freedom has left me with ZERO choice when picking my top game of 2011.

df2506: Mario Kart 7 for the 3DS. Kart racing at its best, great graphics, and just plain fun!

AndrewG009: Warhammer 40K: Space Marine, no doubt. The game was violent, fun, and delivered exactly what it promised to players and WH40K fans alike.

Nintendo_Legend: The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Why? Only new game I bought in 2011. But it was also an excellent game. A worthy saga entry.

Many more responses after the break.

Minecraft

anguaji: Minecraft! Life-changing (such quiet, satisfying fun) and industry-changing (I'm an indie game MONSTER now).

MihaiBita: My favorite game of 2011 was Need For Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed because it's the best racing simulator available on the market.

BGuerrie: Rayman Origins. Good things come in small packages...or without arms or legs. Or something....

stevensukkau: Duke Nukem Forever because I miss '90s sensibilities.

gumzmcgee: Gears of War 3.

omstar12: Batman: Arkham City. Perfect sequel to one of the only great licensed games ever. Shows we need quality developers to do licensed titles.

Batman: Arkham City

SuperangelGames: Batman. Easy answer, because it's Batman. Other than that, the game is great. Want add-on missions, though.

lisachan25: Bastion -- the most complete and whole experience I have had with games in 2011.

JournalToday: Backyard Monsters!

SpaceKappa: Skylanders; it was a fantastic co-op game, and the figures are super rad.

hannohenni: Portal 2, 'cause it's a non-violent game that requires thinking and has awesome voice acting.

Rah_UniQue: Batman: Arkham City, because it was so much fun. Great story. Awesome action.

feitclub: Portal 2. Absolutely a joy to play, alone or with a partner, with writing and acting the likes of which put all other games to shame

Portal 2

akwinters: Catherine. I'd buy anything by the Persona team. Catherine had an interesting story and characters. And I actually liked the gameplay!

robidoo: For me, it was Assassin's Creed: Revelations. Huge fan of the series, and I oved the mingling of Ezio/Altair's stories.  :)

HumanityPlague: Really Big Sky.

MacKinnon_Kyle: Arkham City! Smart design decisions (not facing Bane again, starting with most items from Arkham Asylum) shows maturity of Rocksteady.

Via Facebook:

Anthony O'Brien: Assaasin's Creed: Revelations.

Kevin Joel Torres: Infamous 2. Better story, better powers, and a nice sense of progression.

Myriam Robin: Mass Effect 2.

Joe Orellano: Star Wars: The Old Republic -- it counts, because it launched in December. It was the game to which I was most looking forward, and it did not disappoint. Smoothest MMO launch in history; incredible graphics; amazing voice talents prominently featured throughout the experience; fluid, beautiful animation; and a truly massive galaxy to explore with a glistening thick coat of Star Wars-colored paint. In my opinion, it has the potential to become the greatest MMO ever. Bioware pulled it off, big time.

Bob Hinshaw: Skyrim. 136 hours and a Platinum trophy to prove it. Just so much to do and so many good quests.

John Michael: So many great games this year, but my pick is Batman: Arkham City. I grew up on the animated series. With Arkham Asylum, Rocksteady came oh-so-close to giving me the Batman game I've wanted since I was 10 years old. However, with Arkham City, they finally delivered.

I don't have a favorite, but I'd like to say Arkham Asylum. Yes, I do mean the first game that is two years old. I'm a bit behind the times. Orcs Must Die! and Dragon Age 2 also rocked.

I'm tempted to say Catherine, which I loved. But I'll have to go with Portal 2. Both pushed gaming's storytelling potential forward as a medium. And I've never played a game as well-written and witty as Valve's masterpiece.
