Battle of the Jeeps: EA vs. Relic

An individual with a careful eye noticed the jeep model numbers in Company of Heroes and Battlefield 1943 make reference to the former's developer and the latter's publisher. The jeeps in Company of Heroes read "3A5UX5" -- or "EA sucks" -- while Battlefield's jeeps read "R3LIC47W" -- or "Relic for the win."

The "EA sucks" tag mostly likely refers to the fact that Electronic Arts obtained the rights to the JEEP brand back in 2006 for Metal of Honor: Airborne, thereby blocking Relic from accurately modeling the Willys Jeep in Company of Heroes.

The other tag is less clear; I can only speculate that DICE, who developed Battlefield, is rather fond of Relic's games. [Polycount via Reddit]

Nice catch.

I'm sure the Jeep brand has helped EA increase the sales of their military-themed franchises, no doubt...

That's a vise-grip on the competition if I ever saw one.

Land Rover FTW.

Relic (a developer) is calling out EA (a publisher), not DICE (Battlefield 1943's developer). DICE on the other hand is giving respect to Relic, not THQ (Relic's publisher).

DICE is so nice, which just tells me it's only publishers who have animosity towards each other. Developers just love all developers.
