You might not know the name Abobo yet. That's OK. After he dismembers every last one of your childhood heroes, you will.
Abobo's Big Adventure is a new Flash game created by Roger Barr of I-Mockery, and its goal is to destroy every last one of your 8-bit NES memories in a bloody explosion. It spins a tale of revenge as Abobo, a minor but memorable boss from the Double Dragon series, journeys through a pantheon of NES classics to find his son, Aboboy, and punish those responsible for his kidnapping.
The game parodies an unbelievable number of NES favorites as Abobo rampages though levels modeled after Contra, Balloon Fight, Super Mario Bros., and more. It all culminates in a battle too hilarious to spoil.
The gameplay is standard Flash fare, but the nostalgia makes for a very enjoyable hour or two. And with achievements and unlockables galore, replay value is high. (Hell, I'm gonna play it again just to see how many NES references I missed.)
Check out a trailer for Abobo's Big Adventure after the break -- if you're strong enough, that is. And after you've played it, come back and share your favorite old-school reference from the game. I've already got mine, but I won't give it away yet.
