Chrono Trigger samples and mashups

Who would have guessed that in 2010 we would get two hip hop songs that sample music from 1995's Chrono Trigger? One of my favorite hip hop blogs recently highlighted these songs in a "Sample and Example" post and I figured I'd share.

Wiz Khalifa's Never Been off of the Kush and Orange mixtape:

As an added bonus, check out the Chrono Trigger Mixtape from DJ Epoch. The beats are more straight-forward loops of the more iconic songs from the soundtrack mashed up with hip hop songs popular during the early 2000s. My favorite is 50 Cent's Disco Inferno mashed up with Gato's theme. The tracks are either hit or miss, and I'd recommend listening to the no DJ version.

The novelty of the fictional DJ Epoch hyping up the tape -- with excessive echo, no doubt -- wears off after about five seconds.

Finally, DJ Nerd42 took some of the CTM instrumentals and mashed them up over Fort Minor a capellas to create Chrono Tied (a play on Minor's debut album title The Rising Tide). I'm not sure why anyone would want to listen to Fort Minor, but hey, to each his/her own.
