This week, former Computer Gaming World and Games for Windows editor-in-chief Jeff Green joins Bitmob's Aaron Thomas, Dan Hsu, and Demian Linn.

The group mulls over their print days of yore, why PR folk are the informational gatekeepers of the industry, game-related dreams, which PC games are emblematic of the medium, and what failed hardware they have soft spots for.

What's really frustrating regarding PR is when you have to sit on a scoop or risk limiting your access to future information.

The issue is similar to the problem of reliance on official sources within the mainstream news media -- as parent companies slash news-gathering budgets, outlets have fewer resources to devote to real investigative journalism. In turn, those outlets rely more heavily on official statements from government and business without going any deeper.

I don't know how we fix that, especially in an entertainment beat where we don't have the same philosophical justifications as the fourth estate.
