Shoe and I found Chair Entertainment's Donald Mustard and 1UP's David Ellis loitering in the lobby when it was time to record the podcast. We decided that you would enjoy listening to them and invited them to join us. Honest!

In Episode 017 of The Mobcast, Chair co-founder and creative director Donald Mustard and 1UP's David Ellis join Bitmob's Dan "Shoe" Hsu and Jason Wilson in what turned out to be a Shadow Complex-flavored episode (and believe it or not, that's how the topics shook themselves out -- it wasn't planned like that!).

The guys face off about Castlevania vs. Metroid, stories and their ability to transcend their media, this week's community topic about great games with disappointing endings, pricing and consumer expectations when it comes to downloadable vs. retail games, and if alternative history stories interest them.

Also, if you're looking to get a job in game development, do we have some good news for you. Listen to the whole podcast to find out more.

Bitmob.com - Mobcast #17: Chair Entertainment's Donald Mustard and 1UP's David Ellis join Bitmob's Dan "Shoe" Hsu and Jason Wilson to chat about Castlevania vs. Metroid, stories transcending their media, alternative history storylines, and good games with bad endings. This was a great podcast, and I kind of wish you guys discussed Metroid vs Castlevania the whole show! Shoe, you have a great voice for podcasts! And I agree with Jason that the music in Castlevania kicks ass like Rachmaninoff on speed!

Man, great episode! The best one I have listened to yet and I don't say nice things very often. Good conversations.

Mmm, only just started listening but I get the feeling no one is going to bring up the Shadow Complex 'controversy'? Kinda disappointed considering you guys have someone involved with the game there.

OK Im rather surprised my community question got used twice, but that means I got to hear more peoples interesting opinions! If you guys really need a new question Im sure I can help you out, Im not sure this one will stand up to a third outing ;)

Another good episode... I love the format of the show, and the cross-over guest appearances from area5, 1up, "industry insiders," etc. I have only one hangup: the overuse of "you know" and "like" by all participants keeps my hand hovering over the delete key throughout the episode(s)... I'm sure you don't notice it during recording but over the course of a 72 minute episode it greatly affects my ability to enjoy the podcast.

Jason, I recommend checking out The Plot Against America or the Yiddish Policemen's Union before totally dismissing alternate histories. As a history graduate, I found those books amazing.

It does seem that there was an elephant in the room in consideration the Card controversy. Where were Hsu's "Golden Balls?" Also, does Chair share Card's beliefs?

@Brett I read the Yiddish Policemen's Union, but I enjoyed it more for the mystery than the alternate history. And being a Jew, I enjoyed the Yiddish as well. I even learned a bunch of words that I was unfamiliar with.

To those who questioned the musical appeal of Super Metroid, I give you "Crystal Flash", a 22 minute epic medley of all the tunes in the game:
