The Modern Warfare and Battlefield controversy rages on

On Twitter this afternoon, some interesting news broke regarding www.modernwarfare3.com and EA. Having been a center of controversy already, www.modernwarfare3.com has gone from a sneaky business move, to a ‘Call of Duty’ parody site over the past few months. Now, the site has transitioned into a full blown slap in the face, directed squarely at Activision.

When accessed, www.modernwarfare3.com quickly redirects the user to http://www.battlefield.com/battlefield3, Modern Warfare's biggest competition. To most gamers this does not fool anyone, but surely some laymen’s will be confused. EA doesn’t own the site, so it is highly unlikely they would be a part of such a risky marketing campaign. It is instead more likely that Activision’s legal team may have pushed the webmaster too far and he retaliated. Prior to this, the owner had turned the site into a parody of http://www.callofduty.com/mw3, hosting such enlightening statements as:

"Modern Warfare is crap. On November 8, 2011, the most over-hyped first-person action series of all-time returns with the copy and paste sequel to the lackluster Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2."

Regardless, this conflict between gaming giants only continues to heat up. Keep watching the Internet leading up to the fall release of both and Battlefield 3 (October 25th) and Modern Warfare 3 (November 28th). This will only get messier as the battle rages on.
