Vietnam is imposing some actual tyranny on its people. Maybe they're just pissed about getting virtually shot at in Black Ops.
News Blips:
Gears of War 3 will emerge on September 20 -- beta is still coming soon. It's been two years since Epic last unleashed a GOW title, which means the newest one is ripening in its development hole. This announcement comes as players finally get their hands on Epic's latest offering, Bulletstorm, which hit store shelves today. As an incentive to purchase Bulletstorm, Epic has included beta access for GOW3 with the game. It's amazing that they could cram anything extra in that box, what with the dick jokes taking up all the space.
Nintendo is planning Pokemon Black & White DSi bundles for March 6. For those keeping score, that would be the same month Nintendo is releasing the 3DS. Nintendo has etched a few Pokemon faces on the handheld console, packed in the latest pocket monster game, and called it a bundle. This further adds fuel to my theory that the 3DS will barely scratch the surface of its demand. Nintendo probably expects freaked-out parents to buy this bundle for their kids when they can't find a 3DS and just hope the little bastards don't notice that they aren't seeing 3D.
Vietnam cracks down on the scourge of gaming at night. The communist country has asked Internet service providers to sever connections to online servers between the hours of 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. or else the government will cut off the ISPs. The Ministry of Information and Communication stated that they hope this will "mitigate the side effects of online games." The ministry didn't explain what those side effects were, but let me take a stab at it. The government is sick of a docile populous that has tolerated the totalitarian regime only because they've been distracted by World of Warcraft. Comrades, don't you get the paper? This is the worst time to dare your citizens to rise up against you. [Gamespot]
Soulja Boy plays Pokemon, and he doesn't care who knows it. Popular hip-hop artist and eyebrow-wax aficionado Soulja Boy has tweeted to the world that he plays Nintendo's megahit. "I just want to say yes I play pokemon on Nintendo DS," the tweet said, "and I don't want to lose any swag behind that. Don't judge me lol I made it too far." It is good to see the rapper coming out of the closet as a gamer -- now if only he didn't feel that he needed to be rich and famous before admitting he enjoyed an excellent game.
