Today is heavy with demo announcements. I think every game on every system should have a trial prior to release. It’s the civil-rights movement of our generation, which illustrates just how comically comfortable life has become.

News Blips: Mass Effect 3 demo datedNews Blips:

EA will release the Mass Effect 3 demo on February 14. Thanks be to Cupid! This playable chunk of game will be available for download on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC just on the day I will need it the most. I can’t think of anything more romantic than a girlfriend frustrated with me because I made us miss our reservations for The Olive Garden -- just so I could get my interstellar role-playing on. Pro Tip: That night, don’t whisper “Commander Shepard” in place of your significant other’s name. Well, unless you’re taking the interstellar role-playing into the bedroom. In that case, I say: “Good for you.” This is a judgment-free News Blip. The recommended PC specs:

  • CPU - 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (or equivalent AMD CPU)
  • RAM - 2GB for XP / 4GB for Vista/Win 7
  • Video -AMD/ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB or greater or NVidia GeForce 9800 GT 512 MB or greater
  • 15 GB of free space on hard drive

BioWare touts that Mass Effect 3 is “better with Kinect” in a promotional video that demonstrates the peripherals relevant functionality. Here's said video:

Look, I yell “cover me” in every game I play. I scream it in Modern Warfare 3, because I don’t want to get shot. I bellow it in Jillian Michael’s Fitness Ultimatum 2011, because I hope a stray bullet will catch her in the calf so she’ll stop harassing me. Even I don’t see most people using this technology.

The Nintendo 3DS will receive the Resident Evil: Revelations demo tomorrow, Thursday, January 19. If demoing a game before you buy it were actually a human right, Nintendo executives would be wanted for trial at The Hague. Slowly, the ancient company seems to be coming around to this concept as demos timidly begin appearing on the 3DS starting with a peek at Capcom’s survival horror game. Look for the download to appear sometime tomorrow in the system’s eShop channel. [G4TV]

Gaikai -- a cloud-gaming service -- has made an agreement with Facebook to stream demos on the social network. While popular titles like Farmville have found great success within the world of status updates and photo tagging, bigger experiences like World of Warcraft have never really looked for a place alongside the lineup of more casual games. Gaikai CEO Dave Perry -- an industry veteran who was lead designer on Earthworm Jim -- revealed the deal at the Cloud Gaming Europe conference. In front of a crowd, Perry began playing World of Warcraft from within Facebook using Gaikai. This sounds great, but I just don’t want to see pleas on my wall from my mother asking for help from my level 37 panda bear. [ShackNews]
