I bought around 80 pounds of candy for the supposed trick or treating that was to occur in my neighborhood tonight. As of 8 p.m. Eastern Daylight Savings time, not a single ghostie or ghoulie has knocked at my door. I swear to the Power Rangers that if my house is covered in eggs and toilet paper tomorrow, I’m going to be very grumpy.

Silicon Knights reportedly cuts a majority of its staff. According to 1UP, the Too Human developer is slashing its staff from 97 down to 25 people. The company recently received a $3 million grant from the Canadian government to protect those jobs as well as create 80 more. Barring any insanity effects, that doesn’t look like it’s going to happen. After releasing the popular GameCube game Eternal Darkness, Silicon Knights has failed to find further success. The team’s most recent game, X-Men: Destiny, was widely panned by critics.
MechWarrior Online is developer Piranha’s free-to-play sim. The game is being developed in the mold of MechWarrior 2, which means it'll be a first-person, in-the-cockpit experience that focuses on realism. Hardcore fans of the series will be happy to hear that this installment will be faithful to the plot laid out in the books. "As any BattleTech fan knows, there’s a ton of lore and a ton of history in this universe, and this was a great place to kind of restart and evolve the franchise," Creative Director Bryan Ekman said. Why a series involving giant robots needs restarting is beyond me. Shouldn't it just alwaysbe part of everything? I'm just saying, I'd go to church more often if Jesus rode a bipedal tank. [PC Gamer]
The Binding of Isaac is getting a free content boost. Super Meat Boy co-developer Edmund McMillen told fans that if the game found an audience, he’d release DLC for Halloween. “Seeing as nearly 100,000 of you seem to really love [The Binding of Isaac] we did just that,” McMillen wrote in his press release. The free DLC will include the following:
- Added chapter 5 (unlocked after 10 mom kills)
- Added 3+ new bosses
- Added 4 new enemies
- Added 20+ new items
- Added one new unlockable character (Eve)
- Added one new “FINAL” ending
- Added 6+ new achievements
- Added 2 new music tracks by Danny B
- Added updated collection viewer
- Added 4 new tarot cards (finishing the major arcana)
Sadly, McMillen says this update includes “no actual lame Halloween themes.” I found that to be disappointing but only because I’m an overgrown manchild who still loves dressing up. You should see my Xena costume!
EA estimates that it’s sold 5 million copies of Battlefield 3. Among the many varieties of press releases, the oddest must be the “we just sold a bunch of that game that you knew we were gonna sell a bunch of.” Today, I got exactly that message from EA regarding Battlefield 3. The problem is that I don’t know exactly what to write about that. I’ve toyed with “I’m very proud of you” or “that’s great, however, I still think you could’ve done better,” but those just don’t work. It’s probably best just to stick with sarcasm: Alright, EA, now that you’ve forced millions of people to install Origin, can I please just play the game on Steam?
