I'm going as Tommy Wiseau -- the subject of today's first News Blip -- for Halloween. Any suggestions on how to pull this one off?
News Blips:
The man responsible for the cult-classic film The Room has his own video-game show on Machinima. The Tommy Wi-Show will feature talentless writer/director/actor Tommy Wiseau playing popular video games and then, likely, talking about them. And that’s where it should get good, because Tommy thinks he is good at talking...but Tommy isn’t good at talking. Here he is incoherently jabbering away about comedy. Imagine what his Martian brain will have to say about Dead Island or Dark Souls. Prepare your eyeballs for a terrible mess of thought and mumbling when the show goes live on September 26.
Publisher 2K Games will release Civilization 5: Game of the Year Edition soon with lots -- but not all -- DLC included. On September 27, $49.99 can buy you Civ 5, a digital soundtrack, and all downloadable content released for the game up until August. That’s enough to last most gamers through the winter. Unfortunately, this special packaging does leave room for an Ultimate Edition at some point in the future, since two add-ons won’t be included. Last month’s Wonder of the Ancient World Scenario Pack and Civilization and Scenario Pack: Korea will run you $4.99 each. Be sure to check the comments for someone to get all snarky about how Civ 4 is cheaper and better, but I’m sorry -- I can’t go back to stacks of doom!
Codemasters shuts down the developer responsible for poorly received Bodycount. The Guildford Studio branch will close its doors after the spiritual successor to last-gen first-person-shooter Black was largely panned by critics and failed to gain traction at retail. Codemasters stated that, going forward, the remaining team would focus on the continuing development of its racing titles. Or in other words, going forward they would like to focus on games that they actually know how to make fun.
Super Smash Land -- the Super Smash Bros. demake -- is finished and available to download now. I should probably explain that a demake is the result of deconstructing a current-gen game into a primitive 8-bit version of itself. Super Smash Land, for example, maintains many of the gameplay attributes of the well-known series, but it does it all with barebones, Game Boy-style graphics. Check out the video to see the game in action, and head to Piki Geek to download the completed project. [Joystiq]
