Retro Ads: Sonic 3D Blast

Oh Sega, you proved that games really do not become playable even when you add very minor tweaks across 32-bit systems. Enter Sonic 3D Blast, the forced-perspective work that left a mark of shame on the Sega Saturn and 32X [via The Retroist]:

This ad does answer one of those annoying fanboy questions: What color are Sonic's eyes? Black. Look at this official Sega ad and try to tell me that that's not what you see. That's black as coal with a shine spot -- no green, no blue.... I strike all other images from the record due to the glory of that gigantic hedgehog eye.

If you somehow missed Sonic 3D Blast, hit the jump for a bit of eye-destroying gameplay.

Then the new generation wonders why Sega can't make a decent 3D Sonic game. When you start off thinking of 3D Sonic as this garbage.. it's all downhill from there.
Looking into that eye is like looking into a heart of darkness!
I had to stop the video,it was making me dizzy.I don't think it would have been nearly as bad if they made the gameplay actually work in favor of Sonic being in 3D.It just seems to be hampered to compensate for that it is in 3d,let alone the speed. It's no wonder that this issue has plagued most of the other 3D Sonic games thereafter.
Am I weird that I played the hell out of this game on the Saturn and loved it? In my defense, the Saturn version looked A LOT better than the Genesis version shown in this video. In fact, those mini-game levels were completely different on the Saturn version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ld0qdY8nbUw
I remember when it came out for the pc, since I had no money to go out and buy it, I fetched the megadrive version. And yes, it sucked. It was a isometric mess of a game with no real speed and quick boredom from collecting all those damn flickies birds. A foreshadow of things to come, that's for sure. Demian
