Retro News: Atari's Rebound from the Video-Game Crash

The following is a news report from 1987 covering Atari's attempt to get back into the gaming market [via The Retroist]:

When the video-game market crashed in the mid-'80s, Atari turned most of their attention toward home computers. That got them through an agonizing fall and slump, but when home consoles started taking off again, it was impossible for Atari to sit out on the potential profit.

Of course, Atari should've stuck with computing. Their booming success with the Atari 2600 never trickled into their later consoles, especially the absolutely dreadful Jaguar.

Hit the jump for a 1982 Atari Home Computer Kiosk "interactive" demonstration I stumbled upon. It walks you through several basic functions of the Atari 400 and 800 models.
