Wii fitEven though you probably should be spending time with your family this weekend, I’ve compiled a light and feel-good edition of the Community Spotlight for you to pore over. Today we learn how video games can help us lose weight, how Korea is shaping the gaming world, why PAX isn’t just about flashy booths, why Microsoft’s Game Room arcade is pretty cool, and how journalists should reconsider their usage of the words "homage" and "clone".

How I Knocked 80 lbs Off My HP
By Matt Davis
Determined to take control over his figure, Matt turned to the Wii’s most prominent fitness-related games to help manage his weight. Wii Fit offered the catalyst he needed to do something about his weight, and EA Active offered variety and support as he worked toward his goal. It’s a year after he picked up the Wii challenge. Read more to see how video games -- combined with a sensible diet – helped Matt shed pounds.

Mansae! How Korea Has Shaped the Gaming Landscape, Part 1
By Davin Loh
In part one of his series on how Korea contributes to and molds the gaming world, Davin focuses on fighting games. Fatal Fury 2’s Kim Kaphwan changed Davin’s world when he first played the game, and since then Korean characters have appeared in nearly every respected fighting series from King of Fighters to Soul Calibur. I look forward to reading more in this series.

PAX East: A Saturday In Boston
By Chris Cosmo Cohen
I am so envious of everyone who made it out to PAX last week. The stories are simply astounding, and Cosmo’s is no different. While many gamers went to PAX for the booths, the panels, and the fact that Penny Arcade had a second expo, Cosmo spent the day seeing the smaller and easy-to-miss side of the event.

My Game Room Launch In Review
By Patrick Bonk
Patrick was lucky enough to get through the multiple technical issues Game Room had around its launch to be able to do a little reviewing. Why this article isn’t appearing in the Review Spotlight hinges on the snappy twitter-sized reviews and how together they give an impression of the entire arcade service.

Clones and Homages
By Kyle Russell
Dante’s Inferno and Darksiders have blurred the line between being derivative and being an homage. Kyle thinks the terms used to describe games that borrow or intend to capitalize on previous titles need to be refined.
