Yesterday, Capcom's Special Advisor to Super Street Fighter 4 Seth Killian broke down T. Hawk for us. Today, he opens up about the other series veteran returning for this spring 2010 release, DeeJay. Let's see what Killian likes about the revamped dancing Jamaican -- and what his new weaknesses might be.

On what he likes about DeeJay:

Seth Killian: I tend to like charge characters more than command characters -- I don't know why. So I really like DeeJay right now. And one of the most fun things about him to me...he feels really solid. When I got my down-back charge going, he's like a tank. So I've got good anti-air with my upkicks, I've got a great fireball that's fast and goes full-screen....

One of his best moves right now is his Sobat kick, which is charge back plus forward and kick -- it does this spinning, forward kick. The light-kick version of that is extremely strong and has got a lot of invulnerabilities, so you can get past people who are trying to throw you, you can spin and hop right over low Tiger shots from Sagat and hit him, which is fantastic....

He also has an EX version of the kick which is really fast, has great range, has great invulnerability on the start-up, and if you hit with it, it will actually crumple the opponent like you hit him with a Focus attack. So your target will be totally vulnerable to whatever else you have, so you can hit him with an Ultra after that -- you can do whatever you want. That's a real superstar move that's fun to base your game around.

I think DeeJay is going to dominate characters who need to get in your face. They're going to have a really hard time getting in on him.

On the troubles DeeJay might face:

SK: The real strong fireball characters, like a Sagat, may be challenge for him, because they can throw fireballs faster than DeeJay can charge to throw his fireballs. So he's going to have to be creative in those ways.

Also, characters that can really stay in the air, like Chun-Li -- maybe even T. Hawk because he has his long-range Hawk Dive -- will present some challenges for DeeJay. He's not as strong in the air overall. He controls basically the ground, almost across the screen, but in the air, he's got vulnerability holes in his game.

Note: Killian's comments are based on Super Street Fighter 4 as it stands today in its development cycle. Keep in mind the game may go through balancing tweaks leading up to its April 27, 2010 release, so his opinions are subject to change.

DeeJay *and* T. Hawk were two of my faves back in the day. Never cared for Cammy or Fei Long/Bruce Lee as much, though.

I really had a problem with cross-ups in SF4. Hopefully they add in a counter-system.

They do have a counter system. Try using Focus Attacks properly and you can counter people.

In my mind, I know that Guile and Charlie are pretty much the same, but I still want Charlie. :(

Thanks for the Update Dan, looks like Dee Jay may no longer be as usless as he used to be. Hopefully we get some new backgrounds for the new characters. i would love to see some of the old classic stages remade in SF4 style!

Dee Jay was a great addition to the pantheon. He was like Guile, but with style.
