Boy, you guys sure do want more of Commander Shepard.
It's the start of a new year, and a new year means more new games to look forward to. We asked our friendly Facebook and Twitter followers, as well as Bitmob staff members, to sound off on which games they're anticipating the most. (Spoiler: Mass Effect 3 was a very popular choice.) We also asked for reactions and opinions on community writer Gil Lawrence de Leon's article on the value of online multiplayer modes.
So check out the responses below, and don't forget to follow us on Facebook and Twitter for more questions, contests, and news! We do these Tweetbook Q&A articles weekly, so if you want to be featured, keep an eye out and respond!
Do you think online multiplayer is meaningful and rewarding or a waste of time?
Via Twitter:
@Aquma (Alex Quan-Madrid): I wouldn't say it's a waste of time, but it's certainly time I would rather spend playing a game with an ending. Also: PVP = meh, co-op = yay!
@robidoo: Though I occasionally enjoy online multiplayer (particularly Rock Band), it's purely diversional and often frustrating. I think the idea of cooperative online multiplayer could go somewhere though, a la Gears of War/Left 4 Dead.
@bbretterson (Brett Bates): I'm in the middle. Online with friends can be meaningful; with strangers, not so much.
@nickmichetti: When implemented properly and executed to be a good reflection/extension of the game's mechanics, then multiplayer is rewarding.
@Morinar (Nick Seegmiller): If your goal is obtaining arbitrary digital items, it's a complete waste. If you take enjoyment from the act itself, it has value.
@chase_koeneke (Zack Koeneke): It's a fun mode, but it should never be the main event of a game. That's why I can't get behind a game like MAG.
@Stephano_N: I think multiplayer can be just as meaningful as single player, if not more so. It's just about harnessing their respective emotional strengths.
@ADewiM (Alex Martin): Yes.
@ibitjuan (Juan): Of course it can be rewarding. But current multiplayer games like Call of Duty, Battlefield, and Halo lack new experiences.
@akwinters (Chris Winters): Nine times out of ten: a waste of time. Sometimes it's worth playing co-op, mind. Like Dead Rising 2: Case West.
Via Facebook:
Helen Lee Reid: Can't it be both? :)
