Web Game Tests How You Handle Distractions While Driving

These days you can't drive and grind in Final Fantasy Tactics without someone taking offense and giving you a ticket. Don't the police understand that you're a master of multitasking and pose no threat to the general driving public?

Here's your test, hot-shot driving man. Gauging Your Distraction is a game designed to test how well you deal with external factors while driving.

The New York Times would like to remind you that:

This game is designed to demonstrate the potential consequences of distractions like texting on your driving ability.

As with all games, intense levels of concentration or repetition can lead to more successful outcomes.

I'd like to believe that the same idea applies to real life. If I just concentrate harder, I won't crash while driving and tweeting. [via New York Times]

Unfortunately, my phone won't let me play this game. I take it to the real world.

Exactly. What will happen if you played this game while driving? Double negative, and all is safe.

People who talk on the cellphone while driving are assholes, they risk the lives of the people in their car and the people outside of it.

I'm glad I don't know anyone that constantly updates Twitter while driving. Man, that would be dangerous.

@Cosmo I know... Especially no one who tweets while driving on icy roads at night....

@Cosmo But you do! And he's GOOD at it! @Lucas In my opinion as long as someone is paying apprpriate attention to the road then they can do what they like. I personally don't talk on the road but when/if I text I take my time and pay attention. It can sometimes take twenty minutes to just text "coming home".

I'm going to be disappointed if The Elephant In The Room (as I will now refer to him as) doesn't have the highest score with this.

@Alex I assumed we were discussing you and your paper delivery habits. Maybe I was mistaken.

@Alex Well it's true I'm driving in strong winds and heavy rain at the moment on my way to Monterey but it's not snowing or at night.
