On Sunday, May 1, 2011; a US Military operation took out Osama bin Laden (the most notorious terrorist in modern history). As the world now celebrates democracy’s victory over terrorism; gamers will soon be asking what game could recreate this historical moment.
It helps to remember that in the aftermath of 9/11; the internet was flooded with an abundance of kill bin-Laden-flash games. But now that the fantasy has become a reality; there is an opportunity to allow gamers to experience the actually military operation.
The most obvious candidate would be any sequel to Medal of Honor. The reboot had done a flawless job of recreating the Battle of Takur Ghar (part of Operation Anaconda) while trying to depict the American soldier’s experience. So it should not be a surprise that they might include a bin-Laden mission in the sequel. Plus the Medal of Honor –series is famous for recreating famous battles; hence this task could be their magnum opus.
Yet one cannot leave out the possibility that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 would also want to feature the bin-Laden takedown. Since it has been speculated that Modern Warfare 3 might be a prequel; one of the first missions could involve taking out bin-Laden. Yet the Call of Duty –series has had a resent habit of abandoning “historical accuracy,” therefore their interpretation would be more about taking out bin-Laden and less about the actually moments leading up to the event.
Other game series that could feature a bin-Laden mission would be Battlefield, Close Combat, Operation Flashpoint, Delta Force, Kuma War, Tom Clancy’s: Ghost Recon or Splinter Cell.
Regardless of what game dose it first, it might become one of the most memorable gaming moments if done right. After 9/11; Americans wanted revenge. Internet flash games were fun but now there could be a demand to do it Call of Duty-style.
