12. If you could have dinner with any one person in the world, who would it be?
SS: I would normally pick a really interesting artist, or a guru game creator like Shigeru Miyamoto, but after seeing his talk from DICE on Design Outside the Box, I'm going with Jesse Schell. Brilliant guy with a lot of interesting ideas about interactive technology.
13. Favorite childhood toy?
SS: Kermit the Frog plush toy with velcro on his hands and feet.
14. Favorite comic-book superhero?
SS: Wolverine. Such a bad ass. Batman is a close second.
15. Best ninja video game?
SS: Any Ninjatown game, of course, but outside of that? Shinobi for the Genesis.
Trees of Doom, not Shinobi, pictured here.
16. Best tower-defense game outside of Ninjatown?
SS: I really liked the RPG elements in Lock's Quest, and love the style and straight-up fun of Plants vs. Zombies.
17. Tell us one interesting fact about yourself.
SS: I've only read about 10 books in my entire life.
18. What's the coolest toy line outside of your own?
SS: Friends With You have some really great stuff, and Yukinori Dehara makes crazy figurines and sculptures. P.S. Dehara's stuff isn't always quite safe for work.

19. One thing you most wish you had invented or created?
SS: iFart. No wait, I take that back. I love technology, so I'm going with the first personal computer.
20. If you could go back and redo any review you did for EGM, which would it be?
SS: Ugh! If only I could go back in time! I would change any review where I said something like, “The graphics are really amazing and fast, and I love the music.” Or, “This game isn't that fun, and I think the graphics are kind of lame.” What does that even mean? It's just meaningless filler. It seemed like enough at the time since I didn't know any better, but now that I know how much blood, sweat, and tears go into making games, I wish I would have been allowed to spend more time with each game I reviewed and took every single one seriously.
21. Favorite memory from EGM?
SS: Impossible to choose! As great as it was during a normal work day/night, the best stuff came when we were all hanging out. Parties, Tekken tourneys, NFL Blitz freak-outs, E3 insanity, and general hilarity at any given moment. Easily the most fun I've had in my entire life -- and I cherish those memories.
Love the interview
Thanks, Toby!
I am addicted to Ninjatown games :) and maybe he should be on the podcast even though you all don't like skype :)
Wow, I hadn't heard about Shawn since forever!
It's great to know that he's doing ok and is putting all sorts of creative stuff out into the world.
I remember when Dan, Crispin, Shawn and Sushi-X were all part of the Review Crew at EGM -- which wasn't that long ago, right? ; )
P.S. Is Way of the Warrior that fighting game that featured a scotsman that shot flames from beneath his kilt? If it is, we totally need an HD Remix of that one xD
Roberto: Holy hell that was a LONG time ago. :)
Crispin made the best battering ram.
If you love freedom, you should buy the Ninjatown games.
Love hearing about all of this. Looking forward to getting my iPad so I can play Trees of Doom...you can play Trees of Doom on the iPad, right? Otherwise, why am I even getting one?
So who's Sushi-X now @_@
A wonderfully succinct interview. More please!
