Bitmob-GamesBeat update, partially paid intern wanted!

Hi everyone,

We have two updates for you: One regarding our merger with VentureBeat and one regarding a search for a new, partially paid intern.

As with everything involving anything technological in the history of all things, the Bitmob-to-GamesBeat integration is taking longer than expected. (What's this, you ask? See our announcement post.)

Phase A is almost complete. When this goes live, the stories that you create here will appear on both Bitmob and GamesBeat at the same time. Mobfeed (where unvetted, unapproved posts live on Bitmob) articles will go to a new section on GamesBeat called GB Unfiltered. If we edit and promote your story to the front page of Bitmob, it will also hit the front page of GamesBeat.

And for those of you who have set up your Google AdSense accounts here, good news: Your ads will appear on your posts on VentureBeat's side, too, and you'll get full traffic credit for them.

For Phase A, you won't yet have a profile on GamesBeat, and the comments you get there will be completely separate from the ones you see here. But it's a start.

The more complete integration, Phase B, is still a bigger project that we'll be working on after Phase A is done. Then comes super-top-secret Phases C, D, and more...none of which could happen without VentureBeat's support.

Also!

We are looking for a San Francisco Bay Area-based intern at GamesBeat. This person would work on some intern-y tasks, but paid work would come in the form of freelanced stories that we'd assign to you. In the beginning, you might be doing one to two articles a week, but we'll eventually move you up to three to five posts a week (or more, if you can handle it), all paid on our standard bonus structure (based on the traffic you bring in).

  • We'll need you for about 15-20 hours a week.
  • You'll come into the office (located at 50 California St., San Francisco, CA) about once or twice a week.
  • You'll need to be readily and consistently accessible by email.
  • You will have to be available to cover press events in the area (they usually take place during the week in the afternoon or evening).

Interested? If so, send a cover letter, resume, and some writing samples (hopefully from Bitmob!) with any URLs to shoe [at] venturebeat [dot] com with the subject head: GamesBeat internship. I might not be able to reply to everyone, so don't get mad at me if I don't respond!

What a coincidence, I was just wondering how the merger was going. Can't wait for the completion of Phase A!

Which phase is the collect underpants phase again? Hope all is going well.

Why are all of the video game journalism opportunities only in California?

Unfortunately/fortunately (depending on where you live), a great majority of the game companies are out here, so therefore, the media outlets are as well. Seems like 90% of the gaming press events are here in SF.

Makes sense. Shoe, didn't you live in Michigan? I've been living there for almost 12 years and currently attending University of Michigan - Dearborn. It'd be great to hear what sort of steps you took to getting yourself out to California and getting your first job in the industry.

That's not a short story! :)  I think I talked about that a lot here, though: http://justtalkingpodcast.com/2012/03/20/bitmob-shoe/. Let me know what you think! And go blue.
