Bitmob Giveaway (for a community writer): Nuclear Dawn code for Steam

It's a little tough for most shooters to get any attention right now, what with the "two large babbling baboons in the room," as one of my industry friends so brilliantly calls Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3.

Well, indie game developer InterWave Studios would like you to pay attention to their PC first-person-shooter/real-time-strategy hybrid, Nuclear Dawn. We don't really have the bandwidth to write up this game at the moment -- too many babbling baboons to cover! -- so InterWave would like to offer a free Steam code to one of our community writers instead.

Are you interesting in playing Nuclear Dawn, then writing about it on Bitmob? If so, just let us know why in the comments below, and I'll contact one of you with the details. You can find more info about this title at http://www.nucleardawnthegame.com; otherwise, if you don't feel like working, you can just check it out on its Steam page.

UPDATE: Here is the story that community member Chris Ross penned as a result of this contest:

Nuclear Dawn: The unlikely marriage of FPS and RTS

I'm interested. The unique take on the rts and fps genre is enough for me. It seems like it may be a much more mature (gameplaywise) game in comparison to Battalion Wars II, another game that tried to mix things up. I love strategy, but I'm usually only attracted to quirky types like Evil Genius or simple like Civilization and Advance Wars. Since Nuclear Dawn has a solid fps take as well as strategy I'll be very happy to review it.

I would love to write about this game. I, personally, have been wildly turned off by the FPS in recent years. Battlefield, CoD, and Halo killed what was a favorite genre of mine, growing up (Wolfenstein/Doom addict). I would love an excuse to dive back into first person shooters.  To be honest, I want to try something new, refreshing, and not under the Halo, Battlefield, or CoD umbrella. An indie game that gets out from under the mold could possilby be my gateway drug into the FPS series.

I WANT TO BE IMPRESSED. I WANT A CHANCE TO GET HOOKED.

I've actually published a write-up on Nuclear Dawn on this very site:

I play a lot of FPS games but not so many RTSs so I'd love to see a different perspective from someone with a different gaming background.

I would love to give it a go. It is th esole game of any interest available for macs in the Steam storm.

Seriously. Have you seen the Mac Steam store? It's videog-games worst post-apocalyptic wasteland. Perhaps this game can salvage it. Maybe it can't. HMMMMMM.

Andrew, I didn't disqualify ya. I just said that it was unfair (cause if I were to pick, I'd probably pick you because I knew you the best). So to give everyone a chance, I used a random-number generator. I included you in the drawing!

Haha, I figured that, and that's I removed my sulky and very unfair comment as soon as I made it. I'm still going to pick this up anyway.

I would love to check out the game. I'm a part-time FPS player (I usually play one or two a year) but a full time strategy player. I'm interested in seeing if combining a FPS with an RTS can work. At least, it should be an interesting genre mash-up that could end up being a good thing for the game or just another gimmick to stand out. Either way, I want to find out and share my experience.

I'm actually a huge fan of two games that remind me of this game (based on the description): Section 8 and Monday Night Combat. I'd love the opportunity to write about Nuclear Dawn because I think this is the type of innovation first-person shooters need. Whether this game provides that, of course, is up for discussion.

Shoe, I'm your man. Reviewing is what I do. I've had Nuclear Dawn in my cart a few times but ultimately relented. Would love to give it a go.

I didn't know what baboons you spoke of until I read them. I honestly forgot that there was a new Call of Duty coming out, and I've only played the downloadable battlefield a handful of times. I'd much rather hear about this game than any baboons! Oh, and I'm not offering to play it... only in my computer's wildest dreams...

There seems to be enough strategy in Nuclear Dawn's gameplay to separate it from the other shooters. Looking forward to reading the community write-up.

Hey guys,

It was way too difficult to decide this subjectively (plus, Andrew has an unfair advantage for being a former member of the staff), so I let random.org decide for me. It picked...Chris Ross!

Thanks everyone, for your interest. Sorry I couldn't hook you all up.
