Bitmob Wants You: To Write About the Best Cheap Games

Editor's note: We've had a lot of great budget game entries so far, and we want to keep that going. So please continue to write up (as described below) your favorite games under $10 through next Thursday, November 19. Remember to tag them "Bitmob budget games" so we can find them! -Greg

Confession time: We’re guilty of something that’s just digging us into a deeper and deeper hole -- looking beyond our bounds. Seems like we’re always talking or writing about the big games: Modern Warfare 2, Uncharted 2, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, The Beatles Rock Band, plus tons more.... Yeah, these are all games worthy of our attention, but who’s rolling with so much dough these days that they can actually afford two, three, or the 10 games a month that we'd like?

So with an eye on our unfunded Internet wallets (which we imagine is a situation not unlike what many of you are in as well), we have a job for you, the Bitmob community. With your help, we want to gather up the best games for gamers on a tight budget. Think free Flash games, indie games, and under-$10 games on Steam, Xbox Live Arcade, PSN, and Virtual Console.

We know a ton of great games exist for the discerning gamer. Hell, I’ve probably spent less than $5 during the entirety of my Indie Scene column so far. Let’s find the best ones, after which we’ll compile a master list of killer cheap games.

Here’s what you need to include in your article, in this format (example after the jump):

Price: (Make sure it's less than $10)

Where to get it: Free on an indie website? XBLA? We need to know where to go to get these suckers.

The write-up: Give us a write-up between 50 and 75 words explaining what type of game it is and why the game is worth checking out.

The tag: “Bitmob budget games” This is key so we can find all your entries!

We'll pick the top 25 entries (including some of our own) and put up a huge feature collecting them all. Of course, that number is subject to change depending on how many entries we get, because we know there's a world of great, cheap games out there. We're just trying to bring them all together.

Bango

Price: Free

Where to get it: Right here

Bango is an ideal Flash game: a quick, fun, time sink. The simple premise -- step on every block so that each disappears when you step off it until you clear the screen -- keeps you hooked, and the game continually adds new tricks. The N+-esque simple graphics have a minimalist appeal, and the throbbing soundtrack has a sticks-in-your-head appeal. Give it a shot and chances are you'll dig this catchy game.

I'm assuming combining several picks into a single post is the best way to participate in this? Or should I really flood Bitmob with a dozen individual write-ups of stuff I love on Kongregate?

If you have a bunch ready at once, sure, put them all in one post. Just be sure to keep them separate within that post!

Someone do a write up of "Time Gentlemen, Please!" Amazing adventure game, and it's only $5 on Steam.

Too bad iPhone doesn't count, I am coming up rather quickly with another iHunt feature involving this subject matter :p . Anyways, I fully expect someone (not me) to mention Critter Crunch.. so much cute at that price must be illegal ;D !

This seems almost too easy to bother making a whole seperate post about, especially when we just talked about it a few months ago in some comment section. X-Com! It's FREE on abandonia.com!

What's the time frame for write-ups?
Greg_ford
November 05, 2009
@Suriel: Time frame isn't too long, since these write-ups are quick. I'll see where we are next Thursday and go from there.

Question: could I link to a separate article I've written about the game in the text for this submission?

@Rob: If it happened to hit all the requirements, sure, that'd work. But what are the odds of that? :) If not, it shouldn't take too much to rework it for this.

Oh, I didn't mean to replace the text with a link, just to add a link in addition. I have an angle on an issue I want to discuss that'll require more than a 75 word description.

I guess it's a little late to ask now but was this really $9.99 and under or was it meant to be $10 and under? That one penny separates a number of titles, especially a good number of Xbox Live Arcade titles. Mostly I wanted to send in an entry about Noitu Love 2 but it unfortunately was also priced at $10 even.
