After sharing our thoughts on horror games all week, we turned to you, noble Bitmobbers, for your opinion on the moment in video games that terrified you the most. (Turns out, zombie dogs are pretty scary.) As always, answers come from replies on our Facebook and Twitter pages, so if you want to chime in, join up! Otherwise you can share your scares in the comments below. And be sure to check out the rest of our Horror Week content.
In honor of Bitmob Horror Week: What's your scariest moment in a game?
Via Facebook:
Francisco Lara: The dogs breaking through the window in Resident Evil.
Michael Pangelina: Playing Wolfenstein 3D in an actual castle, at night, when I was probably about seven or eight-years old.
Steve Nagy: The bathtub scene from Eternal Darkness.
Tony Hernandez: First encountering alien babies in Dead Space. Actually, every single damn second of that game.
Mike Hawkins: Dogs jumping out on you in Resident Evil 2. Or was it 1?
Via Twitter:
twxabfn: This is clichéd, but when the dog jumped through the window in the first Resident Evil hallway I jumped about a mile and a half.
acronkyoung: Playing Eternal Darkness at 8 a.m. with others up and around. Checked a bathtub and the scene that resulted made me jump a mile.
GohanEgret: I know this will be a common answer, but the dog coming through the one-way mirror in RE2 FREAKED me OUT.
OmEgah15: Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly. Was there someone else in my reflection?!
zwlovoy: Fighting Andross for the first time in Star Fox 64. I was 8 and seeing his demented face made me turn off the N64 and lose my save.
coreymotley: The orchard house basement in Condemned. Walking around then turning around to get a surprise whack by a charred monster. Yikes!
sm4kxd: The early parts of Nosferatu: The Wrath of Malachi had me pretty freaked. A friend famously jumped while yelling "I'm not scared!" while playing it.
AndrewNK: Retro Game Challenge, when @bitmobshoe's face suddenly appears. Still have nightmares. For the love of God, make them stop.
doubleplusgames: Eternal Darkness for GameCube. All of it!
Juanchitomayor: Besides the dogs in Resident Evil, I found the closet traps in Dead Space to be horrific.
MikeRousseau: Silent Hill 3, watching my reflection in a mirror. Wasn't sure if the walls were actually bleeding until the reflection went bloody.
bitmobshoe: BioShock lured me into a corner, only to have a Splicer stand right behind me when I turned back around. Made me jump...assholes!
BradGrenz: Every time I take a leap of faith in Assassin's Creed. I'm not good with heights....
silphid: In Doom 2 the cyberdemon hooves made me panic. Every step I took was out of fear of finding them.
Keith_Games: Fatal Frame (as a whole). It was not a cheesy gore fest -- smart and fun thanks to a great atmosphere. The camera was an interesting element.
