Mobcast Episode 018

We've got an exciting lineup for this week's Mobcast. Special guest Christian Nutt of Gamasutra makes his Mobcast debut. Greg Ford returns to the Mobcast, and we somehow convinced Michael Donahoe to stop giving people piledrivers to join the show.

Along with Jason Wilson, the crew finds out if anyone's into MMOs and if we're interested in any of the upcoming titles like Star Trek Online (we also learn that Donahoe's not entirely confident in his driving abilities).

Christian asks what our relationships with games are these days. Do we buy as many games as we used to? Do we buy more? Is the passion still there? Greg wants to know about our favorite form of game media, from digital downloads to the ol' clunky Nintendo carts.

We then examine if Donahoe's topic -- have we hit the oversaturation point with zombie games -- and the show takes a weird turn when Donahoe admits that he'd rather give a starving zombie a brain than give a starving Nazi a piece of matzo.

The show wraps up with Miles Henriksen's community question about the differences between Western and Japanese game design.

Can you really have too many zombies games? I mean really. And on the topic of MMOs. I really don't like them because while I love playing games a lot (I Put 300+ in FFX) the amount of time it can take to really get into it is a lot. Plus like you guys said about trying out for guilds, WTF. But I've said time and time again Old Republic might get me to play. Star Wars and BioWare is always good. Good show.

Interesting topics, but a quick question... I assume you guys were recording over Skype or something, is that a normal thing? It just seemed at times that the conversation was a little bit disjointed and the sound quality was somewhat distracting.

Great Mobcast. Listened to it on my way to work today and during my traditional "space out" session before actually working on something. I can really relate to what "The Donahoe" and Christian Nutt said about their relationship with gaming lately. I'm really into all the other things (specially art) thar springs from the gaming world but I can't seem to really get back into actually gaming. Last year I bought a 360 (I never owned a GameCube, PS2 or Xbox) to this day I got through Half Life 2 on the Orange Box and started some other games but haven't really finished anything I'm slowly working my way through PGR4's Arcade mode though, I play for an hour or so a bunch of times a week. I got Mass Effect a while ago and haven't even unwraped it, I finished the Trials HD demo at a friend's house the other day, it was a blast so I might pick that up too, It does seem like one of those games you can get through by playing it a few times a week in short intervals.
