GamePro announced today that it will be shutting down its entire operation on December 5. I just want to say good luck to the many talented people who wrote for the legendary gaming publication.
News Blips:
The Skyrim patch 1.2 introduces a few new problems of its own. Releasing a game with a list of bugs is a Bethesda tradition, as is releasing a patch which breaks everything even more. How about dragons that fly backwards or magical resistance that couldn't resist a level 2 garden gnome? Yeah, all that's straight busted and some old performance issues remain unchanged. Basically, if you can avoid updating, just wait. A patch to fix this patch will likely be dispatched soon...cabbage patch.
According to rumor, Fumito Ueda -- the project lead on The Last Guardian -- has left Sony but continues to work on the game in a freelance capacity. Apparently, the Ico developer plans on finishing his first PlayStation 3 game before moving on to new projects separate from Sony. Team Ico has not released a new title since Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian has been in development for at least four years. A series of large gaming shows have passed without the unique title making an appearance, which has raised the eyebrows of gamers who have been anticipating its release. While this isn't good news, the game should still make it to retailers at some point. Sony doesn't want to give up on one of its biggest remaining exclusives.
Capcom will ship a special edition Resident Evil: Revelations in Europe bundled with a Circle Pad Pro. The Japanese publisher knows that the best way to scare gamers isn't a chainsaw-wielding psychopath with a burlap sack on his head; it's a 3DS with a second-analog-stick attachment. The game and its pack-in peripheral are set to hit Euro store shelves on January 27, which is the first confirmed release date for the Circle Pad Pro outside of Japan. No word on whether this deal will make it to the U.S., but the game has been shown to American press with the extended control interface, which suggests that a release stateside is a possibility.
Activision will release Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies for iOS on December 1 for $6.99. It’s the undead mode that fans know and love, only now it’s on the iPhone. Black Ops Zombies will support multiplayer and voice chat, because -- as my father taught me -- killing reanimated Nazis just isn’t worth a damn if you can’t do it with the people you love.
