Thanks a lot, Wall Street Journal: You made all of us game news outlets look dumb for citing your "facts."
News Blips:
About a week ago, The Wall Street Journal (and subsequently us here at Bitmob) erroneously reported that Blizzard's Starcraft 2 cost over $100 million to develop. Turns out it was actually the company's World of Warcraft that carried the hefty price tag, as the publication today noted in a correction. Blzzard has yet to disclose Starcraft 2's development cost. Boo-urns, WSJ. Boo-urns.
Marvel jumps the gun by posting pictures of Okami's Amaterasu and Thor in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 -- characters later officially announced during panels at San Diego Comic-Con. A crafty NeoGaf forum user posted pictures and screenshots of the characters -- taken from Marvel's official MVC3 website -- shortly before the company took them down. Looks like some people forgot to synchronize their watches.
Electronic Arts Los Angeles is now called Danger Close. The term is military jargon for when friendly forces are near the enemy. Considering the name change and the fact that the its latest game is the new Medal of Honor, it's likely the studio will be focusing on military shooters. Personally, I think that a name like Danger Close would make more sense if the team occupied the building next to an Activision Blizzard studio. [Joystiq]
A study by VGMarket found that women spend $15 more than men per year on virtual goods in social games. The survey of 2,221 people (78 percent of whom were male) centered on individuals who play games from the developer PlaySpan (Eve Online, Global MU Online). Cue the shift to more online social games targeted towards women. [GamesIndustry.biz]
