Tetris is how old now?

Was about to do a search on Google when the image froze me. Why on Earth would they have a Tetris logo (which rules, natch)? Turns out it's Tetris' 25th birthday. Seems a little old, especially since the Game Boy -- which everyone associates the game with -- turned 20 last month.

This reminds me of a completely nerdy writing assignment I did in a humor writing class. I forget the actual instructions, but I made Tetris my theme and tied each block type into a different type of student at a high school. When I read it for the class, I brought out my Game Boy Color and had the Tetris music playing.

Dunno how I got away with that, seeing as it was my senior year of college, but that's not the half of it. Somehow I tied in a videogame-related piece or project into all my final-senior-semester classes. It was probably paritally due to senioritis, but also just because that's simply where my mind was at.

Anyway, many congrats to Tetris creator Alexey Pajitnov for his baby standing the test of time as one of gaming's all-time greats. My gift to you: this picture of Dude Playing Tetris on Old-school Game Boy in April 2009. Enjoy!

Spiffy logo... Tetris rocks. It's older than I am, too.

Tetris...the memories, the Gameboy v1.0, the reason why Korobeiniki will perpetually play through my head as various remixes and covers...

So this was a big thing, right? Every big gaming website had a news post on this. Do you people know that Google changes its logo every other week in commemoration of something? I guess it is Tetris' 25th, though. Blah, I own that game, like, seven times over. For different consoles, that is.

I like to pretend that tetris doesn't exist. Thanks to that game I didn't get my GameBoy back from my Mother till I bought a GBA. She was looking for Tetris color.

@Matthew. I wouldn't say it was a huge thing. Just saw the logo (and yeah, definitely know it's something that always changes, but not usually about games) and thought it was cool so made a quickie post on it. Really, though, do we need excuses to write about one of the greats? :)

@Greg - Hey man, I don't even need to play the game to appreciate it. Just listening to the theme music does it for me. 8) Whatever, there are some awesome online versions of Tetris at http://www.tetrisfriends.com. All Tetris fanatics should definitely check it out. Too bad all the people playing the six player vs. Tetris are fourteen years old. Ownage occurred when I started playing today.
