Or
Uncharted 2: Free DLC, Bonus Cash, Fat Drake, and a Deadly Prize

It took almost two months, but Sony finally sent me an Uncharted 2 package potentially worth a few thousand dollars.

No, no...it's not what you think -- this wasn't some attempted journalist payoff. In fact, I'm not even sure Sony's publicists know this was coming to me specifically.

I'll explain more below, as well as give you an update on the game's upcoming free downloadable content and bonus cash weekend.

Back in early October, my underdog team of literal losers randomly picked from a crowd ended up coming from behind to win a tournament. Our prizes? Extremely rare Uncharted 2: Fortune Hunter Editions that you can't buy anywhere -- unless you count the ones going on eBay for $1,000 to $3,000.

We had to send notarized affidavits to get the prize-fulfillment center to send these to us, because they contain a serious phurba dagger replica from the game. I finally got the full package yesterday, and it's absolutely huge. At least one person from my previous post about the tournament wanted to see pictures (hi Tom H.), so here you go.

Here is the main box, made to look like a weathered journal.
Compare its size to the strategy guide, which they also sent along.

The inside cover, signed by such famous Naughty Dog developers as "Mfft," "Klshh," and "Rmhmmmy."

The huge art book, bound right into the box. Think of it as
Absolute Uncharted (like the comic books) but way bigger.

The inside contents: The phurba dagger, soundtrack, game, and a sheet with a download code for a content pack containing boosters, gold weapons, skins, single-player treasure map, and PS3 theme. The strategy guide came in the same mailing but wasn't technically part of the Fortune Hunter edition.

The phurba dagger up close. It's about 14.5" long and fairly hefty. This is not some cheap piece of plastic -- you can honestly kill someone with it! (But I can't, since I signed that damn affidavit.) My girlfriend is overprotective of this thing, so she wants to leave all the protective foam on it.

Sadie the cat, however, did not sign an affidavit....

In actual news, Sony will release a free update to Uncharted 2 this Friday, Nov. 27 (at 10 am PST).

It includes a new multiplayer map called "The Fort," which is based on the Fortress stage from the campaign. (Hint: Look for a shotgun in the center of the map and an RPG in in a side room in the crypt.) The update will also add a ton of new leaderboard categories and will replace the ad banner with a player card that shows your stats, level, money, and so on.

Also at that time through 11 am PST, Monday, Nov. 30, all online players will receive double in-game cash from kills, wins, and medals -- and special donut Drake and donut Lazarevic skins will be available in competitive online modes (which is great, cause you know what they say about donuts...).

WoW .. One book I would like to read before I try to even put Uncharted 2 in my game system.
Since Sadie didn't sign the affidavit, I would be worried about the look she's giving you in the picture.
Sadie is most definitely plotting in that picture. I think you should definitely keep the foam padding on the tip...just in case.
Just got my package in yesterday and I'm amazed at how big the whole thing is. It's so beautiful, though. Glad to hear you got yours' also. Congrats again and have a good thanksgiving. :)
Calvin: right on! I was wondering if you guys got yours as well around the same time. Isn't it crazy how big the whole package is??
By the way, are you keeping or selling yours? We're keeping ours.
Anyone who's selling their Fortune Hunter editions is clearly not deserving of it. >:(
Very cool! I can't believe how great that dagger looks. You should've signed the affidavit "Daffy Duck." Then they'd never know. ;)
I've been neglecting Uncharted 2 Multiplayer since Tekken 6 and Assassin's Creed 2 came out. This REAL (Medals Included) double money weekend will bring me back for sure. Plus a free map too, I love Naughty Dog. Hopefully they will announce the winners of the Canadian Fortune Hunter contest soon.
That is, by far, the best and most true Limited Edition of any game, ever. And it looks epic! Thanks for the pictures. I was having a hard time explaining to some people just how big a deal the ACTUAL dagger is. I agree about the people selling them not deserving them. Unless they need to make rent or pay medical bills, there should've been a clause in a contract that said you can't sell them. Kinda like how the AMPAS has Oscar winners sign a form saying they have to sell it to them first, and they would only get $1 for it.
We considered it for a brief second when we heard they were going for 3K on eBay. I'm not making any money, and my gf lost some work as well, so we're mainly living off of savings at the moment. $3K sounds extremely good to us right now. :) But then we thought of it this way. In a year or so, when we're back on our feet, will we be glad we sold it for $3K earlier or will we be happy we have this in our collection? So we're keeping it for sure. :)
Donut skins, eh? Does it give you a 5% speed increase? Sorry, just had to pull a 1UP Assassin's Armor joke. I'm actually wondering if the fat skins add a disadvantage to players because they are bigger targets.
Kevin: I wondered that, too. And holy crap on the old, fairly obscure reference. :)
The donut skin looks amazing!
The Donut skins remind me of Rufus on Street Fighter :)
