The first articles I wrote for Bitmob were for a writing prompt called On the Contrary. I'm pretty sure I saw Bitmob on Facebook first, became a fan, and then came over and visited the site and found the writing prompt. I thought, "This sounds pretty cool," and decided I'd try and argue why video games are too violent, since I've pretty much had my fill of violence, given the way the world is today, with war and everything else.
I have to say though, that this started when I was hanging out with some friends, drinking and having a good time, when someone suggested we play Modern Warfare or something, and I just couldn't even pretend to be having a good time.
So the idea had been in my head for awhile, and when I saw the writing prompt I thought I'd give it a try. At some point when I was writing, that 'war what is it good for' song came on, and after he said "Nothing!" I said to myself, "Unless you're playing video games." I had to include the song in the piece after that, and got really excited about what I was doing.
But there were 2 big problems I started to realize after I had just about finished both articles. One, I was really writing about war, not necessarily violence. And two, right now, video games are so diverse there are cooking games! I had come to the conclusion that war, violence, or whatever, was not monopolizing the industry. There are games for everyone!
I guess I learned that war really hadn't taken over the video game universe like I had initially thought.
