War of Wordcraft: An epic song about the trials and tribulations of World of Warcraft

I'm not sure how many of you here are fans of the rapper Sage Francis, but you should know him. He's an intelligent writer with a unique perspective and a distinctive flow who knows how to craft both songs and albums. Case in point, this song, "Best of Times," an emotional and moving piece that I feel is one of the best tracks of 2010:

But the real reason I'm talking about a rapper and this particular song on a video game site is because it inspired a hilarious World of Warcraft-themed parody. I'll let Sage's official news post on this take it from here:

What better way to end my year than by offering up a video for “War of Wordcraft,” which is a parody of my “Best of Times” song.

*if needed, the lyrics are typed out in the info section of the video*

HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?
A couple months ago a guy with the auspicious name of Bloodysic sent me the lyrics to this parody. He said he wanted to rap over the “Best of Times” instrumental and create a video for his WoW friends. I told him to record the vocals and I would put it together as best I could with the instrumental. Despite how it sounds, it took a long time to fix up the sound of his vocals while trying to get everything on beat (or close to on beat.) What we ended up with isn’t half as bad as I was expecting. Or maybe it is considering how BloodySic fell off the grid after I showed him the end result. I then put out an APB for people who could put together a video that mimicked the original video as quickly as possible. A man named DesignByPete jumped in and saved the day. Hope you like this. It makes me laugh at least.

Good humor is going to help get me through this next year. For reasons I’m not at liberty to explain just yet, I will be in South Africa throughout the month of January and I hope to come home with a lot of great stories to share. Despite my permanent hiatus from touring, 2011 is looking like it’s going to be insanely busy. Tons of writing, recording, producing, and collaborating with friends to ensure that Strange Famous Records remains a force to be reckoned with in the independent music world. Expect new albums from almost every single artist on our roster (including the newly signed group, Metermaids!) 2010 can crawl back into whatever hellish cave it came from and die now.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

My apologies. This is my first post on Bitmob and I'm trying to edit it to make the video embeddable. I know I have to change the width to make the videos show up, but I can't even do that. I'll hit edit, click the link or select it and hit submit and it will just take me to an un-editable post or my profile. I was thinking that I could edit after publishing and that might have been a mistake. If anyone can help, please do. Thanks.

First off, thanks for posting on Bitmob!

Your videos should be working now. For future reference, use the "Embed media" icon on the bottom right toolbar of the article editor to post videos. Just use the URL of the YouTube video instead of the embed code. Also, for future articles I would post only the videos and link to Sage Francis' blog so that he gets the hits from your article. If you post the entire blog, there's less impetus for people to go to his site, and he doesn't get traffic.

In any case, I do think it's cool that Sage Francis went out of his way to help a fan with a parody video, especially since it's based on a song he probably feels very deeply about.

Cool. I wasn't sure if there was a second section or anything for just posting a link. I also was worried that if I just posted a link without a video that no one would click on it. So that's alright though?

There's no separate section for only posting links and there's no one true way of posting the information. The common practice when using things taken from another person's work/blog, however, is to credit and link to the source. In this case I would post the videos, link to the source, and mention in my own words that Sage Francis helped make the parody video to attract people to the link, but that's just my practice. You mostly did that, but I wouldn't copy/paste the whole blog post.

Also, you can embed links into words by highlighting a word or phrase in your text, click the "Embed URL" icon on the article editor, and paste the URL of the site you want linked in the box. That makes it easier for people to click to the source site and makes your article cleaner.

Thanks for posting, Bob! I'm a big Sage Francis fan, I saw him a few years ago in San Francisco.
