EDF IAI'm not even going to pretend like the Earth Defense Force series consists of anything that could come remotely close to being described as "good." They're simple, repetitive, and technically inferior even by Atari Jaguar standards. And yet, I played the last game until my eyes bled.

I just find something about disintegrating legions of giant alien bugs with ridiculous weaponry inexplicably irresistible...

The latest EDF title, Insect Armageddon, adds a little variety here and there, but the main draw is the expanded multiplayer. Now up to three players can join forces online through the campaign, and the new survival mode allows for a total of six. Or if you're poor like Dan Hsu, you can stick to splitscreen co-op.

We have three copies of Insect Armageddon for the Xbox 360 to give away, and although I originally planned out an elaborate Jigsaw-esque death trap to decide the winners, the legal department told me there may be some issues with that. Instead, all you have to do is watch the trailer conveniently located above, then tell us what one of your favorite co-op game experiences is in one of three places (or all of them to increase your chances of winning):

  1. Leave a comment on this article below
  2. @ us with your reply on the Bitmob Twitter
  3. Leave a comment on the YouTube page

Rules: Giveaway not open to residents outside the US. Winners will be randomly chosen on Wednesday, July 13th, at 5 p.m. PST.

It's difficult to choose a single favorite co-op experience, but one that immediately comes to mind is Left 4 Dead .  Since that game was designed for cooperative play from the ground up, it really had so many nice little touches that did a great job of bringing players together in a terrifying experience that was different each time you went through a level.  Playing with friends when a Tank is charging us still gets me every time.

I have to second this, and I'm not even a FPS guy (I get motion sickness). L4D is full of "holy crap!" moments, especially when you're playing with friends, and it does a great job of encouraging teamwork.

Favorite Co-Op Experience is either the Simpsons Arcade Game or TMNT Arcade for the NES.  Those games were pretty freakin' sweet.

I made my wife count all the bugs in the video for nothing. NOTHING! Now she’s coming at me with a can of pesticide!

Let me think... One of my faves was was actually in a demo, Scott Pilgrim the Game, playing with my kid sister. There was just something fun about throwing around thugs with my sibling :)

Although the Halo series definitely has its moments, I'm actually gonna go with Guardian Heroes. There weren't many games like it at the time, and I dare say there still aren't even now...

Nothing beats the time I sunk into Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles with friends. That game is criminally derided. Great graphics, gorgeous aesthetics, a fantastic score, and finley crafted gameplay. Wish I still had people to play it with. Or that Square didn't effortlessly run the series into the ground following the first stellar title.

Edf 2017. 3am at my brothers apartment. seeing how long we could survive on the hardest difficulty in the caves full of acid spewing black ants. Usually about 20 seconds. For some reason it was hilarious just how fast they would maim us.

I played that one with my brother as well. What is it about thousands of alien bugs that brings families together?

Childhood fantasies to be Johnnie Rico? Probably not. We grew up in the 90s (born in the mid 80s) so dumb fun was/is just a way of life.

Hunter the Reckoning: Redeemer. Terrible game, but the nights I stayed up playing this game with my friends in middle school were some I won't soon forget.

As lame as it'll sound. My big brother and I used to play TIE Fighter co-op on the PC. He took care of all the keyboard commands like issuing orders to wingmates and balancing power between engines, weapons and shields, while I would take care of shooting the crap out of whatever the objective happened to be with the gamepad. Looking back, it seems a bit humdrum, but it was probably the happiest times him and I had in front of a computer together.

One of my favorite co-op experiences was the Dramatic Battle mode in Street Fighter Alpha. Instead of the usual 1-on-1 Street Fighter that everyone knows, Dramatic Battle was a 2-on-1 showdown where Ryu and Ken fought M. Bison. It was harder than it sounds because Ryu and Ken shared one lifebar and Bison was a real bastard. Most of the time he'd just Psycho Crusher the two of you and it would be over - but when it worked and we managed to beat him, it was beautiful.

My friend and I would each down a Rockstar and play God Hand, passing the controller back and forth. One of the most difficult and demanding games ever became one of my fondest co-op experiences.

My favorite co-op experience was when I first set up and played Doom in co-op.  I kept on running into my friend's line of fire, but it was a great new experience.

I loved playing the original NES Contra with my friends. Racing to the top of the waterfall level and "accidentally" killing your buddies? Classic.

I rarely play co-op games (as I can never get my friends to buy them!) but all my friends have Left 4 Dead 2, so we have had some great times with that game. Blowing away zombies with a buddy or two never gets old!

I remember playing Hunt the Wumpus on the TI-99 (yes, this was a real game, not a euphemism) - the game is a maze of cave corridors with the goal of firing your single arrow at the monster hiding within them. If you missed, you lost. I remember playing with brothers for hours, spotting clues and discerning the monster's location.

That was before simultaneous co-op even existed, though. For that, I'd have to say Slime World on the Sega Genesis. In that you had to explore a toxic alien planet with a squirt gun - it simultaneously killed enemies and washed the acid goo off of your partner; it was awesome.

I hope this second post doesn't get me disqualified, but I had to mention another awesome co-op game I just remembered after reading a couple of the above comments.

Zombies? Squirt guns? Who else put two and two together to get Zombies Ate My Neighbors for the SNES and Genesis. Ridiculous weapons, characters and levels. Ton of fun, especially with a friend.

I would have to mention 2 co-op games that I enjoyed thoroughly. The first being Spec Ops in Modern Warfare 2. I have never played anything like it before. Just the thrill of being on the ground while my teammate is firing from above was awesome. The other was Left 4 Dead. No other game required more team work and less selfish gameplay than this game.

I'd have to say Halo 2.  Me and my friend played that game relentlessly, becoming an unstoppable killing force that knew every enemy's first name and last known address.  Split-screen of  course.  Co-op just isn't the same over a wire.

My favorite co op experience was probably Halo ODST's firefight. It really forced teamwork and the few times I could get a group together (because of no matchmaking) we really gelled and had plenty of tense and memorable moments. The fact that Reach's firefight is nowhere near as good makes me cry.

My most memorable co-op experience is playing Guild Wars with my wife and good friend from work all in the same room.  Those memories are a bit bittersweet as my friend died about 4 years ago.

My favorite coop gaming experience is by far Rainbow Six Vegas. When I first got my Xbox 360, Rainbow Six Vegas was one of the first games I bought for it. It was also one of the first games that introduced me to online gaming. It was heaven. I met friends in that game that I still have today, and talk to regularly. I have played the game for a combined total of 716 hours. I know every pixel of that game. I wouldn't trade any of my memories from my time with Rainbow Six Vegas for the world.

If anyone ever needs help getting through the Library mission on Terrorist Hunt (most difficult mission) on Realistic difficulty (insanely hard) with just a Mac 11 (worst gun in the game) and no reloads, I'm your man.
