Weekend Recap: Battlefield 3 fails to kill COD, GTA5 back to San Andreas, and more

In this edition of Weekend Recap, Silent Hill is going to hell in 2012 and PSN gets some serious Square Enix love for the holidays.

Still better than Daikatana.
While Battlefield 3 has sold over 5 million copies since it was released on October 25, Xbox Live Director of Programming "Major Nelson" revealed that EA's military first-person shooter has less player activity on Xbox Live than either Call of Duty: Black Ops or Modern Warfare 2. I wonder what will happen when Modern Warfare 3 launches later this month....

Konami’s survival-horror series, Silent Hill, gets three new games in 2012. Silent Hill HD Collection (Xbox 360, PS3) includes remastered versions of Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3, Silent Hill: Book of Memories brings co-op gameplay to the PS Vita, and Silent Hill: Downpour floods the PS3 and Xbox 360 sometime in March.

Rockstar Games finally released a trailer for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 5, and the action will return to Los Santos, the fictional city first seen in GTA: San Andreas. Break a $20 and meet me at the strip club.

Square Enix has a mighty gift for you this Christmas. Well...it's not really a gift if you have to pay for it. Anyway...as part of their "Winter of RPGs" campaign, Square Enix will release three venerated classics on the PSN: Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy 5, and Final Fantasy 6. Joy to the world!

Someone should absolutely make a zombie DLC for Battlefield 3. Hey, everyone else did a DLC with zombies, so why not do the same with Battlefield 3?

Actually, I shouldn't be saying that. But it's freaking zombies! Lol.

Sure, why not? Zombies make everything better. Look what they did to Resident Evil.

Call of Duty or Battlefield 3? I play neither of them. I like my FPSs with a sci-fi twist, that's why I'm a huge fan of the Resistance series. Currently, I'm playing the heck out of R3 online. Maybe it's because the Resistance series reminds me of the old school shooters like Doom, Quake and Duke Nukem 3D. Instead of being obsessed with realism, they were more CREATIVE and focused on FUN. The weapons in the Resistance series are the most creative weapons I've seen in an FPS, each having its own alternate fire as well. I even bought my wife a second copy so we can battle online against the Chimera. R3 FTW!

I never cared about realistic war games, like Battlefield, but I succumbed to the hype and gave Modern Warfare a try. I freaking loved it. Not enough to buy the sequel, and I don't plan to buy MW3 either, but those are good, solid games.

While I've never been a fan of the Resistance series, I do appreciate the innovative weapons and their alternate functions. It's almost like an M-rated Ratchet & Clank. I'll pick up Resistance 3 when it hits the bargain bin.
