"I think the term dating-sim is quite heavily ridiculed among gamers. I can't see how dating-sims couldn't find its place in our market. In fact, it is a joke that the books industry and the movies industry has been selling romance for so many years and in video gaming we are only just encroaching on this turf. This genre will most likely become incredibly mainstream in the near future, enough so that it will spawn its own game and not have to piggyback off some other RPG system. But people don't talk enough about it, that's for sure. Keep writing!"

"Whichever way you are inclined to think about such a disorder, it is actually a terrible disease. Absolutely life-disabling. It doesn't only inhibit daily activities but it breaks relationships (because the man can't satisfy anymore)."

"FFXIII is unusual in that it is a game that can only have occurred at THIS EXACT POINT in video gaming history. The Square-Enix mantra "The newest graphics and the newest technology for the newest hardware" + 50 hour epic single player RPG is unsustainable in this day and age on HD consoles.

Players complain lack of diversity of content:
"MT: (Laughing) You can wait longer for the game so that we can improve those... (everyone laughs) The next title that we create will have those elements... However, it's important for us to choose what we can and cannot include, and that's the role of a director: to have to decide what we can accomplish within a certain period of time."

Why does FFXIII take so long to open up?
All-new battle system vs needing to appeal to an even wider, possibly non-gaming audience. The answer is because it is a lowest common denominator game. Also interestingly Toriyama during the Gamasutra interview mentions that they learnt a lesson or two here but did not admit to fault.

"Being the ONE and only male studying in a Nursing course atm for Aged Care makes me feel edgy (sometimes) and I don't speak my opinion so easily because I feel like I might offend someone or enter a large compatibility debate with another.

Also I think Japanese games seems to be a lot bit better at covering the girl-gamer from a mainstream level. Pokemon, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Tales of series and even Monster Hunter. All of these games have a... happy divide between male and female in terms of ratios. Everytime a TV ad for video games appear, they put female celebrities to demo the game and the girls seem to happily accept it over there. They have More games that seem to appeal to both genders.&nbs;"

"I got stuck on a certain boss i think on world 4. So I had to go looking for solutions and the fastest one was to summon a demon that helped with my boss kill (by exploiting its strengths and weaknesses). But it was EXPENSIVE! Easily costing 3 to 4 times the amount I would pay to summon an equal level demon. As a result I didn't feel like I cheated since you can only summon monsters equal or below your character's level. ATLUS' new idea is just brilliant and so simple. "

"Being a real shut in and an avid gamer myself, video gaming has saved my life more than once.

I'll put this in as few words as possible.

Thank you for a beautiful write-up."

"eaks-a-table* Awesome article! Please keep this going! I want to hear the next response in rebuttal to the giles guy because s/he made a good point. One small brow-raiser for me though, when you said "You've chosen communications as your career in life, at least be a professional and stop your snap judgments." I felt that might have been shallowing the debate to just gut instinct vs full-blown fair-is-fair 100% playthrough (i.e. black vs white debate). I feel, according to the article and comments it is more nuanced than that (e.g. Michael went on to do something else after his 'snap judgemen"

"ple I speak to online have been incredibly dismissive of XIII citing one reason: linearity. I think our Gaming Press has really been to blame for this viewpoint. Gaming sites decided to jump the bandwagon and conclude that FFXIII is a bad game because it is linear. Regular internet folks at present wouldn't even give it a chance. It is as much akin to writing off a game like Uncharted 2 with the headline: "Uncharted 2 Exposed! Highly Linear game!" Anyone who gave more than a passing thought knows that Uncharted 2 is not judged on the merit of whether it is linear or not (argument: it does not FEEL linear). FFXIII is the same way. The two are entirely different experiences, and both excel in different ways, and here I argue: Unhindered by its 'linear' shackles. And for GOD's sakes - it is NOT EVEN PENULTIMATELY a Linear game. The game opens up to unimaginable breadths. Gaming Press is so unfair. Go read Destructoid's 10 things I loved about FFXIII http://www.destructoid.com/ten-things-i-loved-about-final-fantasy-xiii-162457.phtml (not exact title). Obviously there is only so much I can fit on the comments. All I can say is - KEEP Reading Reading and Reading! Don't let your non-critical brain take the better of y"

"le still seems misleading to me. It should be JRPG History Channel, and not Buyer's Guide, and yes I understand you qualified what you mean in Part 1. But thanks for the write-up as always. Nice"

"s is cool. One for the JRPG fans! Although I wouldn't try recommending too many old games to the haters. Old JRPGs are too slow paced and time-consuming for the today's lifestyle, especially if you already hate the genre. Eternal Sonata also has the hybrid Dungeon/Puzzle castle-of-what'sitsname early in the game where some 80% of players just stopped playing. You pointed out some cool games, but I feel even these are nowhere in the position to win the haters. I would go with Demon's Souls and Final Fantasy XIII and with good re"

"guys just do such nice stuff on the Co-op show, love the editing and flow of the conversations. I showed your show to a long time TRS fan(Totally Rad Show and he was very put off by the skits. He didn't like how it was so pretentious (his words not mine). Now that the skits are being ditched in favour of live-action he's instantly on board again. We're going to be watching your show together - I am incredibly exc"
