Bitmob Community Jukebox No. 36 -- Square Edition

Welcome to the Bitmob Community Jukebox! The Jukebox is a weekly column focused around gathering tunes from the community and celebrating video game music.

This week is a whopper for Square-Enix -- nearly a third of the songs come from the company formerly known as Squaresoft. The Legend of Zelda also has a strong presence courtesy of community members Jimmy Flores and Bryan Glynn, and a few strange selections from titles like Spore and Mr. Driller crept on to the list.. Also, make sure sure to check out the first-ever song of the week from a game I've never played, seen, or even heard of. It's pretty awesome.

Want to share some euphonious love with the community? Hit the jump to find out how to drop me a line.

I've got three ways to get your boots stompin':

Method 3: I'm Tired of This Playlist

Tired of this week's Jukebox selections? Want to scope which classic songs other Bitmobbers have already nabbed? Then check out The Bitmob Community Jukebox Archive. Contributor Evan Killham created -- and maintains -- a comprehensive list of every song that the community and I have ever chosen.

With hundreds of tunes available in the Archive, you don't need to fret if this week's jams aren't to your taste. Just click the link, and the records keep on spinnin'!

For all you newcomers, here's how it works -- I've got just two simple rules for submitting songs:

1) Songs from music games with original music and licensed songs from game soundtracks like Grand Theft Auto are OK. Submissions from games like Guitar Hero or Rock Band will not be accepted. Otherwise, this post may turn into a competition between people's favorite bands.

2) Only one submission response per person, per week.

When you've thought of a selection, put it in the comments below. And don't worry about the theme you see in the title of the post -- I name each edition retroactively.

I will always try to find the official name of any song I use -- whether it comes from myself or the community. If I am unable to verify a song's title, I will mark it with an asterisk (*).

Finally, if you'd like to win the Double-Plus Good Song of the Week (the weekly best of award), try to think of an obscure song or a song you think the community and I have overlooked in previous posts.

P.S. Yasunori. Mitsuda.

Awesome list today!

Here's my suggestion: Theme of Laura from the Silent Hill 2 OST. I think it's a great and overlooked song!

 Nice pick, Jasmine.

This is one of the greatest hip hop songs of all time, and it's been in Tony Hawk 4, San Andreas and Skate.

NWA - Express Yourself

I suppose this is closest to the version heard in GTA: San Andreas, though.

I can't believe someone other than me suggested a King of Fighters tune. For the record, Esaka is a real place in Osaka. I have been meaning to go there and play the Esaka tune for years now.

This week, I nominate the theme song from "Patchwork Heroes" which I've been playing on PSP for a few weeks now. It includes a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzt6Zbhfwss

Lufia & The Fortress of Doom - Pulifia Flowers

Hey, cool, "The Suburbs" won!  I'm glad you liked it.

@Daniel KOF music is pretty sweet, and I was weird Kyo's theme hasn't been suggested yet.  I'll probably have more SNK suggestions some other time.
