White Knight Chronicles 2

What is it?

It’s the sequel to the PlayStation 3 Japanese role-playing game White Knight Chronicles from developer Level-5. The story takes place one year after and concludes the events of the first title. This time around, players can create their own knight (called an Incorruptus) and the battle system moves at a faster pace.

Why is it cool?

Gamers like me who enjoy simply playing through the ~30 hour single-player campaign can do just that. Others, who are fond of online co-op, can take their avatars online along with all of the progress they made offline.

The action-RPG-meets-active-time-battle mechanics seemed a little funky at first. But once I began to realize the strategy required to win fights (and that it’s actually similar to Secret of Mana), I started to dig it.

The moment I became interested in the sequel to a game I never played.

WKC 2 includes a remastered version of the first title on the same Blu-ray disc. Players can choose to play through part one if they’d like, or skip it and just watch the summary at the head of part two. Why don’t more direct sequels do this? Final Fantasy 13-2, I’m looking in your direction.
