Musings: Sony's Woe

Sony just keeps getting abused over and over by this thing we call fate.

To begin with Sony had a pretty terrible PS3 launch, thanks to a 600$ price point, an overall lack of good launch titles, customer uncertainty, and a few public relations mis-steps.

Then we had the PSP, which has done poorly compared to the DS, and even worse if you compare it to smartphones, if you're of the opinion that smartphones are a mobile gaming platform.

In addition, the PSP Go was as successful as a Roman orator with a speech impediment and a missing tongue, so not very successful, but they did make a lot of hand gestures.
"Why don't you love me?"
This generation many of what were previously Playstation exclusive titles, such as Final Fantasy, and Grand Theft Auto, have appeared on Xbox 360, which further hurt the PS3's viability as a purchase, when for a long time the 360 was far cheaper, and hade a wider variety of titles.

And the cherry on the top of this abysmal ice cream sundae of economic woe is the recent PSN debacle, which I'm sure has cost Sony quite a bit in terms of money, and customer good will.

I fully realize there are other sections of Sony involved with things other than video games, but at the same time, I can't help but feel a bit bad for how they have done this generation. I wish them the best of luck in the coming year, and I am interested to see what steps they will take going forward to try and recover from all that has happened to them so far.
