Remember the Dreamcast? It's back. Rather, it never left, since apparently people are still making games for it almost 11 years after launch.
News Blips:
Redspotgames, a company who's still developing games for the Sega Dreamcast (Last Hope, Rush Rush Rally Racing), wants to release yet another title for the last-generation console in 2011. Speaking to Joystiq, the developer's marketing and sales director, Adrian Loudero, revealed that they only sell a couple thousand copies of each of their releases and are expanding into WiiWare and Xbox Live Arcade development for extra revenue. He did not give specific on Redspotgames's next title. When talking about porting Dreamcast games to XBLA, these aren't the titles that immediately come to mind.
According to a recent NPD survey, 20 percent of those surveyed played a game on social networking website within the last three months. Of that group, 35 percent had not played other video games before playing what was on the social networking site. What I want to know is how many of the people who admitted to playing those games were suppose to be working or paying attention in class.
An Italian group called (roughly translated) The Consortium for the Protection of the Palio is unhappy with Sony depicting their flags in Gran Turismo 5's Siena (Tuscany, Italy) level. The group's CEO, Anna Carli, warns that "you can not use images of Contrade, in this case the flags, without authorization....Given the relevance of the game with no history and references to our party, in particular the use of images of flags of the Contrade, we would not otherwise authorize the use." If Sony doesn't resolve the issue, they threaten that their lawyers will take action against the video-game maker. First Mafia 2 and now this. Apparently, August is some type of "Video Games Against Italians" month that no one told me about. [Corriere Fiorentino via Kotaku]
Less than two months after the release of Deathspank, developer Hothead Games is already churning out a sequel: Deathspank: Thongs of Virtue. The game picks up where its predecessor left off and drops on Sept. 21 for PSN and Sept. 22 for XBLA. Let me take a stab at the title for the third installment: Deathspank: Banana Hammock of Destruction? How about Pandemonium Panties?
