Man, those glasses are so cool. Wouldn't you buy a pair just to wear around in public?
News Blips:
At the AOU Expo in Japan this week, Konami showed off a playable version of Metal Gear Arcade and its special 3D glasses. The peripheral comes equipped with a mic and speaker for voice chat, since the game is based on Metal Gear Online, and head-tracking technology (Snake looks where the player looks). I hope these glasses also have some sort of self-sanitizing feature. [Joystiq]
Republican organizers of this weekend's Conservative Political Action Conference hope to attract the 30-and-under crowd with a video-game-laden "XPAC Lounge." The creator of the game room, Kevin McCullough, brags that the lounge will feature "the most popular games. There'll be Guitar Hero. There'll be Dance Revolution [sic]. There'll be Call of Duty." Nice. You know, Republicans aren't some sort of non-video-game-playing group of people -- I hear that Ronald Reagan was a beast at Space Invaders...or was that something else? [Fox News]
Threshold Entertainment, the production company working on the third Mortal Kombat film, is suing Warner Bros. (who picked up the rights to the franchise from Midway) for a breach of contract. Threshold alleges that Warner Bros. shut them out of producing the film, which goes against their original contract with Midway. As much as I want to make a joke about bad video game movies, I would still like to see someone make a third Mortal Kombat movie, if just for the sake of nostalgia. [GamePro]Â
The Entertainment Software Association estimates that people all over the world illegally downloaded over 9.78 million games in December 2009, but the actual figure may be much larger than that since they primarily studied 200 games transferred on popular peer-to-peer platforms such as BitTorrent and eDonkey. Perhaps the numbers were particularly high that month because pirates low on funds downloaded extra games for their friends for the holidays? [gi.biz]
