News Blips: Sonic's Birthday, 3DS Video Chat?, Kinect Pricing, and More

At 19 years old, Sonic the Hedgehog is still going remarkably strong when you consider the relatively short lifespan (four to seven years in captivity) of his brethren.

News Blips:

Sonic the Hedgehog turns 19 today. To celebrate, Sega is temporarily slashing prices on various Sonic games and other classic titles for Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and Apple's App store. I'm happy to think that Sonic made it through his awkward adolescence and, hopefully, can now discover his identity as an adult. [Sega's official blog]

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata teases that the next generation of video chat could be on the 3DS. Speaking to Forbes, Iwata said that "technologically speaking, a variety of different things are possible with the 3DS. For example, 3D video chat." I guess that would be a cool feature and all, but I won't be truly excited until someone introduces holographic video chat to the world.

Microsoft has the Kinect motion-control technology listed for $149.99 on its official website. They have a note stating that "official pricing has not been announced" and that the current figure is just an estimate and subject to change. This isn't a joke but a genuine survey: Assuming you own an Xbox 360 already, would you pay $150 for a Kinect?

DC Comics is now offering its titles for the PlayStation Portable's Digital Comics Reader. Prices for individual issues range between 99 cents and $2.99. In honor of the release, DC's putting out exclusive digital comics based on God of War, Resistance, and Superman/Batman. Would anyone let me borrow their PSP to read these comic books when they're done? I can lend you some of my trade paperbacks.... [Joystiq]

Why couldn't SEGA wait one more day so I could share a birthday with the Blue Blur :(

@Matthew, What year were you born? Maybe your parents should have had you a day earlier.

@Alejandro, I was born in '82. My parents probably should have. I'll bring up my disappointment when I see them tomorrow.

As to Kinect, no.  There is going to have to be several must have games for it before I jump on.  Preferably a sale too.  Like how I got a Wii last Christmas when Walmart had $50 off sale.

@Matthew, I'm sure your parents will understand. hahaha.

@David, serious! I haven't really seen a killer app for the Kinect yet, but I do like sales, as well.

Sonic's not old enough to drink. LOL

Will not pay that much for a super enhanced EyeToy, Kinect. It'll have to be bundled with some killer franchise game by a preferred developer to warrant that price tag. I could care less for Wii party rip offs.
