Summer Months

Many of you all can go to any site and read an article about another holiday season over booked.  This year like many are so over booked delays have been hitting gamers left and right.  If you haven't heard then well you may want to check if your game will be released this year.

In my book summer months go from end of school in may/june till about aug/september.  Do I blame publishers & developers for not releasing during this time?  I am a halfer on this since I am a parent.  Will explain below on why I am a halfer and will go both ways with my decision.

Now I wont blame publishers since this is the time families need to get out side.  With summer months those of us who have kids can really go on vacations to see family that may be cross country.  Others take road trips in recreation vehicles or other modes of travel.  In economic times it is good to spread money to other companies as well.  When doing this it helps providing a service and may keep another gaming family employed.  Personally I work in the Recreation Vehicle market right now and lets just say it is not pretty as my area has the highest unemployment rate out of the entire US.

Since the reason's why I agree with what they do it is time to go on why I don't agree with publishers.  Think about all those top name titles you know will be released during those winter months.  When releasing a new IP why not send this out during a summer month to gain sale momentum.  If you think about it even if we are going to get one or titles in the winter.  Some of our other money is going to other christmas gifts that are not dealing with electronics.  People like me still like sending out about 75 holiday cards in a 2 month span.  This does not include gifts or gift cards for others as well.

Either way I could add to each to make one out weigh the other, but that is not the point.  What I think most gamers want is a meeting between the publishers and market a time frame to release new IP / franchise hits.

If this could be worked out maybe and I mean maybe.  Some of the gems lost in the sea wont go over looked for so long.  Now if your trying to think of a game that got lost in the sea of a juggernaut battle please check out the original Viva Pinata.  So November 2006 Viva Pinata got over looked while Gears of War and Call of Duty 3 hit gloves and went round for round.  In the end Gears of War won and poor Viva Pinata was falling on deaf ears.

So in hopes publishers realize they themselves are not giving the games they market a chance.  Again I ask the publishers to seriously take a look into this before they ruin another game during holiday season.
