Welcome to the Brave, Slightly Newer World of Bitmob 1.1!

Look at the new drop shadow on that logo! We've been working on that for months!

OK, not really. We also worked on a few other things in this site update. Like the sub-nav bar up there, so you can filter the home page (which only contains officially vetted/approved posts) and Mobfeed (where all stories go for everyone to see) by system, and the new "like" button at the bottom of each post, so that you may express your enduring like for things.

We redesigned the Mobfeed and Podcasts pages to look nicer and accommodate more posts per page, and our all-new blog editor not only loads fairly quickly but can also create multipage stories.

One important note about the blog editor -- the new "Mobfeed Description" field populates the blurbs on the Mobfeed page, so you may want to edit your recent posts and fill that part out.

All small tweaks, we know; the biggest changes to Bitmob are out of sight and should let us add all the really major features we're working on much more easily. Coming soon: a Profile page that actually lives up to the name....

P.S. Oh, and now you can edit comments!

UPDATE: Check the comments below for more info on specific problems we're ironing out right now (like old articles that have mysteriously turned "unpublished." If you find any issues with the site, please let our tech team know at support@bitmob.com.

Yes, finally!!!

Thanks for being patient with us, Bitmob community. It's not easy doing this with no real money! :)

We might have a few kinks to iron out of this new platform...so please continue being patient with us!

Well the new post screen popped right up, with some new options too! No more HTML editing to get the text right (well, less at least). Lookin' good.

I like that the latest comments feed displays more info too.

This was fast! Congratulations everyone, on this first step towards world domination!

The wait was nearly unbearable, but seeing that new logo, I can understand why. But what's the deal with no Emoticons?

Apart from that, I can see a lot of new changes, and it looks awesome.

Looking great. I can finally pop in to edit a tiny change without having to wait 10 minutes. Progress!

Wow! This is way more than I expected from a 1.0 to 1.1 update. You guys addressed and improved so many different aspects of the site at once. Great stuff.

What are all the green check marks next to some of my articles?  Some have them and some don't.

Wow! We can edit comments now? You guys are spoiling us. Love the new additions and I can't wait to try the new My Blog later. Great job guys!

I love the categorization of articles! I can't wait to see how that aspect of the site will grow... would love to see 4-5 mobfeeds based on what you want to read.

I also love the return of the standardized tag suggestion system (it's a little wonky, sometimes not populating when you click on the tag you want).

Quick suggestion: A quick internal tag link option. That would make my life so much easier -- linking to specific content tags within Bitmob for games is a friggin hassle! Unless it already exists, then let me know!

As soon as the proper Bitmob url starts working for me (running through an IP address supplied by Rich for the moment), I'll be posting like crazy!

Nice work!  Now all you need is to collect more underpants and achieve profit.  THAT'S the next step in world domination.  So sayeth the Underwear Gnomes.

So fresh. So clean. Great job.

Funnily enough the blog editor is now the fastest thing on the site.

Thanks guys!

@Kevin: A few of the guys didn't want emoticons anymore. I guess some people consider them cheesy! I never knew....

@Chris: Green check marks mean the story's published. We had some migration issues, it seems, where not all stories stayed published. If you see a story's not published but it's supposed to be, please turn it back on!

If any of you saw Avatar in 3-D, grab your glasses and look straight at the new Bitmob logo. It's pretty darn trippy.

Wow. I'd say about half of my 100+ articles went unpublished... seems to be due to not having a description.
This is going to be a lot of work.

Also, when does Bitmob get achievements? HMMMM? Put that on the list for 1.2. Suggestions! Points for total word count, 5 articles above 500 words, 25, 50, 75, 100 articles, post an article in all types, get 5 front page articles, have the most visited article of the month, etc etc

(That was in jest, but you know... that doesn't sound half bad...)

There is also an auto save every 5 minutes in the new blog editor.

Uhh, so I just had a problem. This article http://bitmob.com/articles/bitmob-high-score-challenge-george-costanza-frogger-classic-with-canabalt-results magically got replaced by this article http://bitmob.com/articles/meta-life-will-achievements-take-over-reality.

I don't know how, but it just happened while I was adjusting things.  But that is a bug, alright.

Please offer as much feedback as possible on the new system so we can work out any remaining bugs and make this a better experience for you.

Emoticons suck. As we tell my nearly 2-year-old niece: Use your words.

I think it happened when the Profile said "Syncing..."

And if you REALLY want emoticons, you can write them the way your grandfather used to: with an equals sign and a right parenthesis. =)

Good job on the revamp! If only I had something to write about so I could test out these new blog features, haha.

@Brett my grandfather died to give me the right to use colorful emoticons! You are all fascists!

After the update my articles don't show up on a search, neither does my name, and everything that shows up in google goes to a dead link.  What do I need to do to fix this?  My articles are showing up on my admin page as published, and I can look at them, but getting to them without going to my admin page is impossible.

Happy Happy Joy Joy!

Edit: I can edit my retarded comments now!

I'm having the same problem as Jeff is having, but it's all over the whole site. I can't look at the one article I've written, and also the staff pages have disappeared too.

On a side note, I found out that the one article I wrote was featured in a reviews spotlight about 3 months ago, so I want to give belated thanks to Mark for that!

@Gabriel Search is not working at the moment, but we are fixing it as I type this.

@Michael Staff Page is http://bitmob.com/staff you may need to republish your old articles and make sure you filled out all of the proper fields.

Finished updating all my articles with cute little blurbs to sucker in...i mean...uh.....encourage new people to read them.

Now i'm just waiting for the search engine to get back up and running and anxious to see how the new format effects what people look at on the site.

February 24, 2010

UPDATE:

We're working on the site speed. We know everything is too slow right now, sorry!

Also, it's quite possible some of your old articles are showing up unpublished now. This is because our new system doesn't like it if you don't have the "Mobfeed Description" filled out. We're trying to figure out how to fix that, but in the mean time, the best thing you can do is to fill those out with a short summary of your article, then that post should be good to go.

Thanks for being patient with us!

BTW please keep in mind: This is an ENTIRELY new website from the ground up. This isn't an upgrade from the original -- all-new code from the ground up. That's why it's been a tough transition.

@Jeffery I am pretty sure we all still be looking at these American Apparel Adds. Nah I know what you mean... but still...

February 25, 2010

Uhm, the first time you guys went down for maintenance and back up, I had an Admin tab and it was all buggy and you could do lots of stuff you normally wouldn't. What was up with that? I personally didn't touch anything, but it was weird.

Also, as a suggestion, can we get a subscribe button for each person, so we can follow stuff like Waste a Work Day or Jukebox or something? Not RSS feeds, I mean updates sent to your profile page.

"@Michael Staff Page is http://bitmob.com/staff you may need to republish your old articles and make sure you filled out all of the proper fields. "

Okay, I'll try filling out the extra fields, but about the staff page I meant the actual staff pages themselves, not the staff page. I.E. this one

http://bitmob.com/index.php/mobfeed/blogger/Shoe

also for some reason when I hit enter while writing my comments out, the cursor doesn't go down a line unless I keep jamming on the button. When I hit it once, it just slaps back to where it was.

Even when I click "remember me" and enable cookies, the site keeps logging me out. This will happen WHILE I'm on the site, even. I'll be logged in, go to my profile menu, click page 2 of blogs, and I've logged out in the meantime.

@Shoe or Demian, is there a way to change the size of Youtube videos?

Default_picture
February 25, 2010

@Brian Shirk, you have to change the resolution in the Youtube embed code.

February 25, 2010
Well the box I used to be able to check so I can subscribe to comments is gone and it seems that did away with everything I ever subscribed to. I loved that feature. :-( I'm wondering if someone would be willing to do a step-by-step guide for how to use the blog editor and what all the features do. Making my first post was confusing because there were tabs and input fields that I was curious about but didn't want to muck up my story for the sake of expirementation. If someone could take screenshots and put explanations to what it does I think that would be a great help to people who are new to the service.
