"Good point. I try this every now and then with mixed results. Just this week I decided to give Divinity 2 a chance, despite mostly poor reviews. In this case, the reviewers were right. I punched out after only a few hours."

"argument of who is "real" or "hardcore" or whatever is artificial and only exists because of the Internet and forums and people's inherent "my dad can beat up your dad" silliness.
That said, I think there is something to be said for knowing what came before, no matter what your field of interest is. If you're a big music fan who thinks that The Sword invented heavy metal, you're sort of missing the point if you don't take the time to go and listen to some Black Sabbath.
Same thing goes for games, but I'll also be the first to admit that a lot of the old games don't hold up nearly as well as other forms of entertainment. I can easily sit through Raiders Of The Lost Ark any day, but damned if I can play Yar's Revenge for longer than 5 minutes without getting"
