Ah, Batman:Arkham Asylum. What more can be said?

For years I waited for a decent Batman game and final one was delivered to me.I just wasn't expecting it.I'd heard of AA and read a few previews and such but I wasn't really bothered at all, I just assumed it would be bad because its a licensed game. How wrong I was.The game blew me away. The combat was fun and the stealth and detective work was fantastic.I don't like stealth in games, but I love it in this.Even the Riddler trophies where great, they were full of little subtle nods towards the comics, which I love.Easily one of the best games of 2009

Why did people think this would be so bad? When I first saw screenshots I was blown away and when Rocksteady announced that Bioshock is their main influence I knew we had a unique game on our hands. The hype surrounding this game upon release wasn't shared by any other debut this year (not inFAMOUS or Prototype, even). It just seems lazy that people keep slapping this title on the game, especially when they haven't played the studio's first game that I hear is good from people who played it but everyone else sticks to this mindset that its supposed to be crap because otherwise Batman: AA wouldn't have been such a great surprise--like, that's essential to a game being memorable. If you want a great surprise, go with Cryostasis or Street Fighter IV. Who knew Russia would put out such a esoteric, competent shooter or that Capcom would revitalize the fighting genre in such a massive way. There was nothing surprising about Batman: AA being good, to me. I guess it was just how good it was that was surprising. Sorry for being so pissy, but I keep seeing this game being given this title when it doesn't make any sense. 90+ Metascore (pre-release), amazing graphics, competent studio (even if they are underdogs), important Batman alumni, and much hype aren't what makes a game surprising.

Well for me, it just all seemed to be too good to be true.I honestly didn't think it would all connect in the amazing way it did.I had never heard of the developer, I had never even heard of their first game, so for me they were an unknown quantity. It was also surprising to me because I have played games before that had great reviews, great graphics and competent studios behind them, but I felt they were pretty bad games. This one wasn't and I was truly surprised at how much I enjoyed it.
