Ever wonder what the world's favorite video game would be? So did new website unikGamer. And they're here to help us find out.

UnikGamer

Here's how it works: Once you create an account, you're prompted to rank your top 25 games of all time. As you type each title, it appears in a sidebar on your left. A simple drag-and-drop interface lets you rearrange your list at will. Your top-ranked game gets 25 points, 24 for the second, and so on.

Once your list is set, you can see how it stacks up with the rest of unikGamer's users. The site takes all those points from each member's list and adds them up to create an overall ranking. As you can see in the screenshot above, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time currently occupies that top slot.

What we're curious about is which game Bitmob community members would choose as the greatest of all time. Read on to see how you can cast your vote...and to see which titles Bitmob staff members have selected as the best ever.

1. Create a profile on http://www.unikgamer.com/ and make your Top 25 list.

2. Go to Bitmob's profile page and click "Become a Fan."

That's it! Your choices will now be part of our community list, which you can view on the right side of our profile page under "VIPs & Fans Top 100."

7. Ico

Totally forgot which ones of those I actually put on my list. SOTN, totally.

Done. Wow, I love this ranking mechanism.

Hey, what's up with the bias against Ocarina of Time? Lol. That game is classic gold. And for some reason, I still know all the secrets in that game.

Should I be alarmed that I've never played 4 of the Bitmob Top 10 as listed above?

I don't think so, Daniel -- I haven't played two of those games at all, either. Bitmob's list appears to be very console heavy (specifically with so many Nintendo/PlayStation titles).

Jonathan, Ocarina of Time is overrated! And now I jump out of the way of flying tomatoes....

@Rob: Hey, that game always brings so many memories for me. Sure, the graphics don't look good, but the point isn't in the presentation. This game is fun because of all those glitches and awkward character designs with jagged polygons. Lol.

I love the anime-style faces of the characters. They look way more down-to-earth than the revamped graphics in the new games.

It has one of the funnier Zelda storylines involving a princess who loves to racially profile Ganondorf just based on the color of his skin. Okay, maybe it wasn't intentionally racial profiling, but it's one of the funnier games in the Zelda storyline.

I also love the mystical humming sounds in the underground cave areas. Ocarina of Time is more about the atmosphere than about the actual adventure itself.

And with that, I guess I'll stop ranting. I always get pretty riled up over this game. Lol.

Wow, is that website a consolefest or what.

@Rob

I'd have to agree with you on that one (about Ocarina). For some reason, I never quite latched on to the idea of Zelda in 3D. It took me like a half hour to find the frakkin' sword. The best game of all time? Hell no.

@Jason

Oh come on! Lol. Half of the weird fun came from finding that sword. I'm lucky that I know where to find the sword nowadays, but this Zelda game made you struggle to find out what to do next. It's the real 3D puzzle experience for Zelda games.

*facepalm* Sigh, I'm definitely never going to win with this argument. Maybe I'll just stick with Final Fantasy. Lol.

I enjoy a good challenge, but not to the point of frustration (and my tolerance is quite high). I got through Tactics Ogre: Let us Cling Together with few problems, but gave up on Ocarina. Strange, no? Granted, I beat Tactics Ogre recently, after at least 10 playthroughs of FF Tactics.

@all: you have to realize the fact that our unikGamer community is at its beginning at the moment. There are only 1,3oo users right now. It's up to us - both the unikGamer & Bitmob community - to spread the word and get more people involved, so that we have a more representative result. So please do so and tell all your friends.

I second what Rafael said :)

Yeah, I think you should give Ocarina another try, Jason. Finding the Kokiri Swrod was the easiest thing to accomplish in that game, and I first played it when I was 12. I don't think it's physically possible for anyone to be that bad at a Zelda game.

I did eventually find the sword, and I believe I made it to the first dungeon before I gave up. It's been a long while since I played it, but I just remember the first dungeon (and everything before it) being extremely frustrating. I've beaten some doozies in my time, but if a game is frustrating, I lose my patience (especially now, when my time is at a premium).

It's a good thing you never played the Japanese version that came with the Wind Waker preorder, then. That one I did give up on.

I usually reserve judgement towards others' gaming tastes and habits, but I'll admit that meeting someone who has played Ocarina of Time and didn't like it is akin to meeting a gamer who has never enjoyed a Mario game. I've even met die-hard PC elitists who had a blast with Ocarina -- mind you, most played the ROM on PC. It's especially tough to believe someone actually found the game tough.

I'm not making fun of you, if that's what it seems like; to each his/her own. If you have the time, though, I highly suggest giving it another go. Games age terribly, unfortunately, so it may be tough to get into an older, dated-looking game that you couldn't get into when it was new. Ocarina is one of those titles that, no matter how nonchalant one may be towards it, every gamer should experience it in its entirety. Games like these should be experienced based on their merit, alone, rather than personal taste. Often times, you'll find something worth your time, even if it is a single moment.

Hell, I abhor Japanese RPGs, however I forced myself to experience Final Fantasy 7 because of its reputation. While playing through the game didn't really change my mind about it, I can at least claim I've played it when I knock the story. Also, the game offered a few decent laughs (intentional ones), which is sadly uncommon in games and made the experience worth it, in its own way.

Seriously, give the game another shot. There's a reason it continues to be referenced to this day, and there's a reason why people still whistle the Ocarina songs in the shower.

Well, I've already played what I consider to be the quintessential Zelda game ;) (Link to the Past).

In the same way that not everyone is a fan of FFVII, Uncharted 2, Super Mario 3, and various other fan favorites, not everyone is crazy about Ocarina of Time. I do believe that certain titles should be experienced by all gamers, but unlike movies (2-3 hrs), it's a tad harder to suffer through a game you don't like when the experience can last 15-80 hours.

You're also right that the game may have aged badly. I find that a lot of older games are unplayable. I know that Shadow of the Colossus is supposed to exemplify gaming's potential as an artistic medium, but I absolutely couldn't get past the PS2 controls. Luckily, the HD version will be out eventually, so I can experience it that way.

I might have no trouble with Ocarina's difficulty now. There's actually a good chance I'd breeze through it--though, an argument could be made that games have gotten a lot easier. However, at the time, I just remember getting frustrated and giving up.

I would like to play through Ocarina eventually, but only when I get a big gap in my play schedule, and that may not happen this year. It seems like there's at least 1 or 2 primo releases each month.

 OoT was good but I don't agree with the opinion that it's the best game ever. It was fun, but it had flaws, and I wouldn't say it's the best Zelda game - which I think belongs to Link's Awakening.

I do agree that some games should be played by every gamer; not because they're the 'best' games but to appreciate the medium's heritage.

Incidentally, Link's Awakening is the title that hooked me on RPGs. I loved that game.

@Jason: I actually agree with you on Shadow of the Colossus. I liked the game's style, but I couldn't stand spending all my time holding R1 for dear life. My right index finger was really sore after all that time clinging on to a giant.

I'm probably just too used to Oot's automatic jumping system. Life is so much easier when I can just use my joystick to jump off a cliff. Whenever I want to climb up, I can just tilt the joystick up. Ah, those were the days.

Link's Awakening is always intriguing, now that I think of it. Even though it's a old style, it was a strange, lonely experience. The music was simple, but the dialogue was much more emotional. I also fell in love with Marin back in the days, but she always disappeared at the end. Sigh...

(On a side note, I really don't accept the ending of Shadow of the Colossus. I mean, really...? The boy transforms into a giant, then transforms into a...Sigh...)

@Jonathan

Much of the PS1 and PS2 generation's attempts at 3D platformers were awkward. A lot of people forget how lousy the controls often were. Games like Super Mario 64 have spoiled us.

April 18, 2011

@Jason: Well, the first PS1 platformer I ever played was Ape Escape. I loved the goofy analog controls, but it's definitely not anything that I would try again. The graphics especially looked chunky as hell.

Some of the games were really good though. Ratchet & Clank is still my favorite from the PS2 days. Now he's practically the PS3's poster child.

For the record, I'm just glad that none of the Playstation developers tried to pull off something as weird as Super Mario Sunshine. You can't get any other game with weirder dubs than that game. It's literally like one of those 4Kids TV shows on the Fox channel. And I especially hate baby Bowser. Ugh. He makes me want to barf.

A Link to the Past was fantastic. With that said, if you enjoyed that game and can look past the age and faults of OoT, then you're destined to enjoy it. The concept of everything aging after you pull the Master Sword was groundbreaking in A Link to the Past, and was perfected in Ocarina of Time. I highly suggest putting it on that same list as Shadow of the Colossus. The second you get the chance to play them, do so.

This is definitely going to be the summer of Zelda for me. Link's Awakening, Wind Waker, Link to the Past, Oracles of Ages (I have beaten Seasons,) Minish Cap, Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks all have been purchased over the years and have yet to be completed and with the exception of Minish Cap (which I just don't enjoy at all,) I want to beat them all before my senior year of college starts. Am I crazy?

I'd like to try Ocarina as well. Only got to play it on my friend's N64 (I know that garden maze in Hyrule Castle like the back of my hand.) If only there were a way to experience it on a more modern console *goes back to playing 3DS*

@Chase: No you're not crazy. I've already played five of the seven games you played. Plus Ocarina of Time. I've had the Zelda addiction for quite a long time.

And yeah, I guess I've gotten a little too used to all the tricky puzzles over the years. I actually wish the Zelda games would regress to its old NES days. I'm sure someone still remembers and loves how insanely hard that sixth dungeon is, with all its stupid Gohmas and fuzzy balls and a bunch of other crap that I can't remember the names of. Lol.
