February is an exciting time for DC Universe Online fans. Later this month, Sony Online Entertainment will release their first of many semi-regular content updates for the game, featuring a wealth of seasonal content as well as the premiere of the long-awaited brokering system. In it, Catwoman takes the stage to lead players deep into the creepy Gotham museum and unearth ancient magic.
This instance is for players who have already reached level 30, but it will be accessible the moment the update goes live until the end of the month. The new mission also comes with another animated scene and scenario-specific loot.
Catwoman will also be a playable character in the Legends PvP mode and on the run as you chase her in a new Gotham rooftop race.
For players who have yet to reach the level cap or are more interested in the Metropolis side, the update brings new content for you, too. The battle between Wonder Woman and Circe has upset Aphrodite. As a result, fountains have appeared all over the city. They're portals to a cherub-based instance that challenge players to determine the true meaning of love.
PvP players will be able to collect hearts and shoot NPC citizens with love arrows. The hearts can be spent on in-game gifts like chocolate and jewelry and are only good through the end of the month. The question is, though, does anyone playing on a PvP server like the other players enough to buy them gifts?
The Valentine's Day-themed content also features a few new appearance items like a harlequin costume and a four-player battle against Aphrodite, Devotion, and Scorn.
Silliness aside, this update also includes new more permanent content like the brokering system. The auction houses in the Watchtower and the Hall of Doom are now open for players to swap gear with each other to complete their look and fill holes in their item collections.
Alongside the auction houses, SOE is adding a new Batcave instance, a two-player battle against Bane, and a new open world PvP zone in Gotham.
This is a very promising start for DCUO's continued support. So far, no new level cap is in the works, but more items and feats have been worked in, many of which go along with the Valentine's Day theme. The update is slated for later in February. My best guess is likely closer to V-Day itself.
